Our Q3 2024 Cobalt Market Report – developed in collaboration with Benchmark Mineral Intelligence – highlights critical developments in the cobalt market. Key insights include: 👉 EV market growth: Global: EV sales hit seven million units in the first half of 2024, marking a 21% YoY increase despite a slowdown in growth. China: Strong Q2 performance saw EV penetration rates exceed 40%, with a 31% rise in unit sales YoY. Europe & North America: Mixed performance - 2% growth in Europe, while North America saw a 10% increase in H1. 👉 Policy trends: Growing protectionism against China-made EVs is reshaping the market, with new tariffs driving manufacturers to shift production. 👉 Global market balance: Increased output from major mines like Kisanfu, combined with weaker than expected EV demand, is leading to a larger oversupply of cobalt in 2024. To coincide with COP29 we're launching our Cobalt Decarbonisation Pathways report where we apply a just lens transition. Join us for our launch webinar #justtransition #cobalt #cop29 #Decarbonisation #climatechange
Ten days to go! Join our webinar "Cobalt for the #EnergyTransition: Cobalt Institute’s Decarbonisation Pathways". Cobalt is vital for the green transition. Its key role in the lithium-ion batteries that power electric vehicles will prove essential as the world pursues the goal of a decarbonised future. But the cobalt industry has its own carbon footprint, and as the lithium-ion battery market explodes over the coming decades, more cobalt will be needed, and associated emissions will rise. Companies in the cobalt value chain cannot rely on the metal’s essentiality to absolve themselves of the duty to decarbonise and must take the decarbonisation of their own operations and supply chains seriously. But what does this process look like, and where do companies start? What sort of actions can the cobalt industry take to cut emissions, and what sort of investment is needed to do so? What can policy makers do to work with companies to ensure a decarbonised cobalt industry? What does this process mean for the workers and communities affected by a changing cobalt industry? Our expert panel Susannah McLaren Tom Fairlie Fritjof Lloyd Schubert PowerCo Daniella Savic Eurasian Resources Group Gert Van Hoof Umicore Anna Triponel Human Level is ready to give you the answers! ⏰ 1-2.30pm GMT on 14 November 2024 📍 https://lnkd.in/e-HKgG5s
