Publishers behind the UK's world-leading comics industry have launched a new trade association. The founding members of Comic Book UK include Beano publisher DC Thomson, Judge Dredd publisher Rebellion, graphic novel publisher Avery Hill Publishing, Bunny vs Monkey publishers The Phoenix comic, drama production house B7 Media and smartphone comic startup Fable. The association will promote the growth of UK comic publishers, which are behind some of the world’s most recognisable comic book characters. A £10million investment in London's creative industries is projected to generate more than £2.5bn for the capital’s economy. Announcing the funding, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said the sector had a "central role" to play in London's future growth and "help make London the greatest city in the world". The funding will help Film London, the London Design Festival, the British Fashion Council, and London Games Festival to support creative businesses, boost jobs, and deliver annual trade shows, festivals and events. London’s creative industries already bring £51.7bn to the economy each year and account for one in five jobs in the city. The new funding is expected to result in: *more than £2.5bn in film investment *up to £60m in fashion sales *up to £17m in games investment *up to £15m in sales and exports for up to 800 design businesses *42,000 film and TV crew employment opportunities *150 games jobs *300 training and employment opportunities.

Grants of up to £2,500 from Creative UK to enable companies in England (outside of London) who work in moving image for storytelling (including film, television, games, animation and immersive) to hire a consultant to help grow their business. * Rebrand Reuse competition. PR3 | the Global Alliance to Advance Reuse Standards Panel is inviting designers to create a new symbol for ‘reuse’. Plans for a new National Centre for Arts and Music Education have been announced by the Department for Education. The centre will support the delivery of arts education by providing online training to teachers and promoting opportunities for pupils to pursue their artistic interests in school and with cultural providers. Also announced was a new Enrichment Framework to support schools to offer pupils high-quality creative and other extra-curricular activities. Developed by experts, the framework will cover activities from sport to gardening, board games to school bands, or debating to volunteering. A new Digital, AI and Technology Task and Finish Group made up of sector and digital experts will also be established to advise the government on what changes can be made to prepare children and young people for the jobs of the future. UK marketing agencies contribute £20.5 billion in GVA to the economy each year, new data has revealed. Agency by Agency’s analysis reveals that there are 25,495 marketing, advertising, creative and media agencies in the UK, employing just over a quarter of a million people. Launched this month, Agency by Agency received funding from Innovate UK's Collaborative R&D programme to develop the marketing industry's first real-time analytics and data source focused specifically on agencies. Its first Industry Report sheds light on the nature of the UK's agency landscape. * Micro and small agencies (less than 10 employees or £500,000 turnover) make up more than 80% of all agencies across the sector *Agencies with 1-2 employees contribute £1.3bn GVA to the UK economy. *The overall growth rate of UK agencies is 7.3% (based on headcount and turnover growth), but there are marked variations between different agency subsectors; for example, the rate is 2.8% for design and branding agencies, while for Amazon/marketplace agencies, it's 20.4%. *Agency subsectors currently experiencing high-growth include influencer services, data and marketing analytics, and conversion. https://lnkd.in/eYzW4JQ5

Two new government-backed research projects gathering evidence about UK creative businesses will help to shape future policy to support the sector's future growth. **Creative Employer Skills Survey** Creative businesses with two or more employees are invited to take part in the Creative Employer Skills Survey. Researchers from the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre and Work Advance will gather data from 1,300 UK creative businesses on skills shortages and gaps, training provision and future skills needs. It's part of a wider skills audit process which will inform the Creative Industries Sector Plan and subsequent skills provision for the sector. It's co-funded by the CIC and Department for Culture, Media and Sport. https://lnkd.in/eKx8eseW **Creative Business Panel** A three-year longitudinal survey tracking the behaviours, performance and experiences of creative businesses of all sizes across the UK. It's the first time data about creative businesses is being collected on this scale, creating a groundbreaking evidence base to inform decisions for business leaders and policymakers. The survey, led by the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre and CoSTAR Network Foresight Lab, includes a cutting-edge examination of the use of emerging technologies.
