Following the successful launch of our Standards back in February, today we published more details about our work via a new Guide called “CIISA’s Services”. The Guide describes the entire range of support we will offer and answers some of the frequently asked questions about our work. It also sets out how we plan to introduce our services in a 'step-by-step' approach. Our Chief Operating Officer Andrew Medlock said, “Today marks a key milestone in CIISA’s journey. We are delighted to be publishing more details about what CIISA can look and feel like for those working in the creative industries: how they can interact with us, and where we can add value. We will continue to engage with those who may want to use our services, so they are truly user-led in design, and ensure they are built for maximum impact and value. We look forward to working with everybody across the creative industries to make that happen.” You can find the guide here: https://lnkd.in/eaVCRWTc

Today we published details of research carried out by international partner Clara Gallistl FRSA to explore how other countries embed safe and inclusive workplaces in their creative industries and what appetite there is for working together. Clara's report outlined the significant support and appetite for this work - recognising the global connectivity of the creative industries and the universal need to keep its talented workforce safe. We are delighted to be working with Clara that will see CIISA and its partners build an international community of practice to make strong connections with like-minded organisations. #creativeindustries #ciisa #freelancers https://lnkd.in/etMNQCJg

Huge thanks to Dame Caroline for raising CIISA on the floor of the House, and for her continued support of what we are seeking to achieve!
If the creative industries are to deliver on their full potential for UK plc., employers need to lean in to ensure freelancers are protected from bullying and inappropriate behaviour . Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority is a key pillar in that growth story. I’m glad Department for Culture, Media and Sport Ministers agree. It now needs proper buy-in across the sector.

Prevention of workplace bullying can also contribute to suicide prevention. This story from Korea also highlights the lack of protection for freelancers in the creative industries and "the need for improved systems to protect workers, regardless of their employment status". It really reinforces the need for the work of the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority in the UK in raising standards across these sectors. "Oh Yeon-ah passed away on September 15, 2022, at the age of 28. Following her death, it was disclosed by her family members, weeks later, through the notes found on her phone, concluding her decision to end her life was linked to severe emotional distress stemming from her work environment." "Prior to her suicide, Oh had attempted to communicate her distress to MBC management, reaching out to several employees about the harassment. Still, the company reportedly failed to pursue any serious investigation, justifying their lack of action by claiming they were unaware of the severity of the situation." "The events leading to Oh's death have opened up discussions about workplace bullying within the media industry, with commentators emphasizing the need for improved systems to protect workers, regardless of their employment status."

We are off to Parliament this afternoon for the Women and Equalties Committee oral evidence session, following up on their Misogyny in Music report, where our Chief Executive Jen Smith will be giving evidence on CIISA’s progress - particularly through the lens of engaging within the music sector. Before our session, there is a panel discussion on where the music industry is on tackling the issues and challenges facing women working in the sector today. You can watch live from 2.20pm, with the second panel session due to begin at 3.20pm. 👇 https://lnkd.in/e9Aua-mB
