✨ Exciting news from the Scottish Classical Sustainability Group, who have been listening to musicians - over 115 of them! - to find out how they feel about international travel and how we can make touring greener. Established in 2020, the Scottish Classical Sustainability Group was created to bring together Scotland’s classical music sector to promote sustainability, share best practice, learn and act as one to navigate the challenges of the climate emergency. Recognising how important musicians' perspectives are, they captured those experiences in a recent survey, with participants from the classical sector, but also from folk, jazz, pop, electronic, and punk backgrounds. Their findings are full of insight, inspiration, and practical ideas for a more sustainable future in music 🎶 Key findings include: 💡 Organisations should be encouraged to include musicians in their sustainability planning, and musicians should initiate conversations about sustainable approaches with the organisations they work with. 💡 Those surveyed reported that international travel was important for their job satisfaction, but over 54% said they wanted to fly less for work. 💡 Carbon emissions factor into travel decisions for the majority (60%) but it’s usually practical things like time and money that make the final decision. Younger people are more likely to always consider travel emissions in their travel decisions.
