About us

CSY Architects deliver Architecture for homeowners, businesses, housing associations and community groups, from our three regional offices in the Lothians, Borders, and Northumberland. We care about the communities and environments we work in, and we combine this with our years of experience and specialist knowledge in energy and conservation, to help make places work for people. As an employee owned company, the people within our team are at the heart of everything we do, and we enjoy working collaboratively with trusted partners. This team brought together the collective skills of three preceding practices in 2020, including Camerons Architects, which was established in 1963.

Updates

  • Planning approved ✔️ Planning has been approved on Orchard Steading - a project which aims to convert an existing steading establishment into a single domestic dwelling. Originally, consisting of three buildings, two of these were linked at a later stage and created a U-shape, forming and overlooking a large internal courtyard. The proposed design approaches the existing buildings sensitively, retaining as much of the original fabric as possible. The small contemporary extension in timber and glass is secondary in scale and differentiates from the existing buildings by form and materials.

  • Phase 1 Complete! It has been a pleasure to work alongside M.T Richardson on ‘The Barns’ and bring this stunning development to life in the heart of Norham. This phase saw the transformation of three stone buildings, blending heritage with modern living, with the full project set to include five modern new-build homes alongside the conversions. Great article from BusinessLive about the project: https://lnkd.in/ebsP48yx

  • 30th of 100 in Urban Realm's list of top Architects. The CSY Architects team are thrilled to have been placed at number 30 in Urban Realm's list of Scotland's top architectural practices. This is our highest position yet, including positions gained by the four preceding practices that formed CSY Architects. This is a great endorsement of our team being greater than the sum of its parts, delivering for people and places. It is an honour to be recognised alongside so many respected practices, showing the overall good health of the profession. The magazine also touches on a range of interesting projects and themes, including the increasing interest in the reuse and adaption of existing buildings, which is something we're really passionate about. Here's to a great 2025 for the profession and wider construction sector!

  • Merry Christmas from CSY Architects. The whole team would like to take this opportunity to wish all the very best of seasons greetings to our colleagues, collaborators, consultants, contractors, clients and communities. 2024 has been an epic year for the practice, as we have grown through our merger with Davidson Baxter Partnership Ltd, and continued to develop together as a team. We've been working to optimise our services through our Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Edinburgh Napier University, bringing the benefits of this to all scales of project. We continue to work on lots of exciting projects from house extensions and housing developments to conservation and retrofit projects, community projects and more. All four of our offices will now close until Monday 6th of January, when we look forward progressing all of the above. We hope all of our friends and followers have a great break in the meantime.

  • We are excited to share that Kirkhope was just been announced as the “SURF - Scotland's Regeneration Forum Awards Winner of Housing and Regeneration”. This is the project we were proud to have collaborated with ETTRICK AND YARROW COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMPANY on this community lead enterprise. The aim of this development was to address an urgent demand for affordable and energy efficient housing in the area. Originally 2 old steadings in disuse, the conversion now provides five-ecofriendly family homes for the area. Which comprises of 3 residential and 1 new-build semi-detached house with the addition of 7 commercial units with office spaces located upstairs. This project was also part of the Regional Economic Partnership’s Housing Action Plan for the South of Scotland which aims to create more homes and more choices in hopes to combat the housing crisis. We look forward to continue working on and contributing to tackling the housing crisis. Please find out more here: https://lnkd.in/eXfjytaX

  • Building Information Modelling/Management at CSY Architects. Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Edinburgh Napier University.   CSY Architects are delighted to share an overview of our exploration of BIM on smaller projects in this blog-post, following a two-year partnership with Edinburgh Napier University. Following the merging of three practices for form CSY Architects and with our more recent merger with DBP Architects, we have been keen to harmonise our systems and ensure we provide an optimised service at all scales. We have spent two years reviewing every aspect of our systems and converted to BIM workflows and process to ensure this. This has been a collaborative process, with academia and other construction professionals, which is in-keeping with the collaborative theme of BIM. Please click on the link for more about our journey and the benefits of this to our clients. https://lnkd.in/d46x3BJ9

  • BIM Collaboration Strategies. Knowledge Sharing Event with Edinburgh Napier University. On 15/11/24 CSY Architects were delighted to share the findings of our two-year collaboration with Edinburgh Napier University around BIM on smaller projects and in SMEs. We shared our strategy for an ever-improving service at all scales, ensuring all projects benefit from the latest systems and approaches. We were grateful to be joined by academics, professionals and practitioners to exchange insights into the subject area and enjoy some stimulating discussions. CSY Architects are continuing to implement our findings and striving to increase collaboration, based on the principle that a team is greater than the sum of its parts. • BID for Galashiels - Voting Closes Today! CSY Architects are proud supporters of the local business community around each of our four regional offices. The longest established of these is in Galashiels, where the business has proudly served the town for over sixty years (previously as Camerons). This commitment has included our involvement in various regeneration initiatives and the very successful murals featured in the business plan for a Business Improvement District. Having worked with Energise Galashiels and with our Directors contributing to both the Galashiels Town Team and BID for Galashiels (https://lnkd.in/eEExkgu9), we are proud to have voted yes this week. We hope that other local businesses will also support this initiative and look forward to seeing all the benefits this will bring to the town. #bidforgalashiels #voteyes
