Updates

  • We are excited to share that we have officially moved into our new Edinburgh studio. Located at 3 Jackson’s Entry, our new home is just around the corner from the Scottish Parliament and on the doorstep of the beautiful Holyrood Park and Arthur’s Seat. We believe that great design comes through collaboration, sharing ideas, and feeling inspired where we work. Our new studio has a focus on spaces to be together, to meet and present our work, and support our talented and creative team. Every detail reflects our belief in the transformative potential of good design to improve people’s everyday lives. We look forward to welcoming our clients and colleagues to our new home. Here’s to great teamwork and exciting projects ahead! 💻🌿☕

  • LDN’s Emma, Calum and Reece were fortunate to attend the first showing of the Berwick Parade outdoor spectacular by artist Matthew Rosier. The event underlined the enduring importance of the Barracks to the local community, with over 800 people signing up to take part in the moving parade! Also fantastic to see the Gymnasium building in full use and completely transformed with art installations. Hopefully this is just the first in a new series of vibrant events at the Barracks - well done to The Maltings (Berwick) Trust for a hugely successful evening. Thank you for having us!

  • Another significant milestone has been reached at our Berwick Barracks project! We are delighted to share that Planning approval and Listed Building Consent have been granted for the transformation of Berwick Barracks, on behalf of our client group The Living Barracks Partnership. The design team has worked closely with project stakeholders English Heritage, King’s Own Scottish Borderers, Northumberland County Council and The Maltings (Berwick) Trust to develop a series of considerate interventions associated with the celebratory museum offering, café, archive and flexible community facilities. More specifically, the project includes an elegant Atrium Building extension, new lifts, accessible entrance walkway and fabric repairs to both improve and safeguard the Grade I Listed asset. Following successful completion of the adjacent Block D-G decant facilities and artist studios, we can’t wait to get on site with the main East range project. Lots more to look forward to in Berwick-upon-Tweed!

It has been great to be part of the team to deliver Gordon & MacPhail's new retail store and whisky tasting rooms following the unfortunate and sudden closure of the St Giles – the delivery is a testament to Gordon & MacPhail’s commitment to the local community. The doors officially opened on Saturday 01 March 2025 and we wish it every success. Gordon & MacPhail

Funding announcement! The Grade I Listed Berwick Barracks will be transformed into a thriving cultural hub and visitor destination. 🎉 We've awarded English Heritage a grant of £4.5m for the partnership project. Empty buildings and spaces across the site will be brought back into use in a way which supports the local economy and ensures the survival of the historic landmark. ✨   #NationalLottery funding will also support a programme of community outreach, collections care, and organisational resilience. As a result, Berwick Barracks will be an integral part of the town, ensuring that this important site will be preserved as a standout visitor destination and community resource. • We are excited to share a glimpse of our original posters that are displayed in our Inverness Studio.   These illustrations explore the simplicity of fine line drawings capturing some of the exquisite architectural features of these buildings. They also exhibit project work from our studio that spans from 1973 to date – a celebration of the past, present and future.

I’m proud to share that LDN Architects is no.14 in Urban Realm’s UR100 rankings for 2025. Fantastic for the hard work of our creative team to be recognised again this year. I was also honoured to be featured in a short interview which was a great opportunity to reflect on the practice’s values, our commitment to heritage and net-zero design, our passion for breathing new life into existing buildings, and why we love what we do.   What a way to kick-off the year! I can’t wait to see what the team and our amazing clients can achieve together in 2025.
