What a day at the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) Apprenticeship Awards 2025! ✨ We recently had the pleasure of attending this fantastic event, celebrating the achievements of DVSA’s apprentices alongside over 200 attendees. As a proud training provider for Team Leader, Operations Manager, and Business Admin apprenticeships, we were thrilled to be part of such an inspiring day. Even more exciting—we sponsored the Business and Management Award, which was won by our very own apprentice, Simon Hobbs! 🏆👏 Seeing our learners excel is why we do what we do, and we couldn’t be prouder. **What Route Did I Take to Begin My Career?** The route I took to begin my career wasn’t just through a university degree with De Montfort University (though I do love to mention it- after all, it’s one of the most expensive things we pay for! 😆). I actually started with a Level 3 apprenticeship in #businessadministration with CT Skills. That hands-on experience was invaluable and really shaped the foundation of my career with The Resolute Group Ltd. It taught me the real-world skills needed to adapt, solve problems, and work in a professional environment. I gained insights into how businesses operate, which made me appreciate the importance of transferable skills when stepping into the working world. If you'd asked me at university where I’d be today, recruitment probably wouldn’t have been my answer. But looking back, my family knew I was destined for a role where I could talk, ask questions, and connect with people- turns out, they were right! 🗣️💬 While my degree didn’t directly lead me to this role, it helped me develop skills that were crucial during my apprenticeship. Studying history and politics gave me the ability to assess information critically, understand different viewpoints, and communicate clearly- all of which are essential in recruitment today. The biggest takeaway? A degree doesn’t determine your career; it’s about the skills you gain, the opportunities you take, and your willingness to learn. Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week at Bilborough College We've had a fantastic week full of activities and guests to help our students understand more about Apprenticeships and be inspired to consider this exciting pathway. Huge thanks to the apprentices, employers and training providers who gave their time to engage with our students: Alumni Henry Henderson MAPM, Amy Perry, Fred Sutton, Beth Hodgkinson, and also Harry Lester, who gave the lowdown on what it's like to be an apprentice and shared their top tips Andy Green from DBC Training for delivering an insightful session on LinkedIn and searching for apprenticeships Employers Daniel Rose and Ellie Straw from E.ON UK, Hannah Johnson from Cooper Parry, Agnieszka Olkowska and Anna Taylor from Nottinghamshire Police for helping students find out more about their apprenticeship programmes Heather Duffield and Catherine Allman from DBC Training for supporting students with applications Pauline Williams and Daniel Harrison-Buckley from Nottingham Trent University, Lesley Bell from CT Skills, and Kate Brown from althaus for advising students about the wide range of apprenticeships available at different levels
