On December 6, 2024, Bristol Magistrates Court handed down a substantial £50,000 fine to West Country Distributors Limited for a gross vehicle overload offence. 💷 What makes this case particularly troubling is what was revealed during the investigation. When stopped, the driver admitted he was operating on behalf of the company but confessed he hadn't performed any of the required vehicle safety checks before departure. Beyond the headline fine, the financial impact continued to mount: £2,206 in prosecution costs £2,000 victim surcharge. This brings their total financial penalty to over £54,000 - funds that could have been invested in proper training, safety protocols, or business development. Important change to driving test cancellations starts 8 April 2025. You'll need to give 10 working days' notice (instead of 3) to cancel or change your car driving test without losing your fee. This will help reduce waiting times by making sure cancelled slots can be offered more easily to other learners. Special circumstances like illness or bereavement will still qualify for refunds.
