This week's 'Things We Love' is a sculpture called ‘Infinite Accumulation’ by Japan's Yayoi Kusama, aged 93. Towering over Liverpool Street’s Elizabeth Line station, her sculpture stretches over 100m in length and is 10m tall and 12m wide. It reflects its surroundings, as well as the hard surface world it inhabits. The Curious team likes how the piece, and its title, encourage us to look up – not just at nearby skyscrapers, but at the ever-growing and evolving urban landscape of London. 🌆 Co-funded by British Land and City of London Corporation, and commissioned by Crossrail Art Programme, this permanent installation is classic Kusama, with her signature polka dot motif spiralling in endless directions. Is it intended as a metaphor for our interconnectedness? A response to both the individual's experience, and that of the collective? What do YOU think when you see it? Let us know! 👀 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ddJMRf6h #TWL #InfiniteAccumulation #YayoiKusama #LiverpoolStreet #ArtInstallation

A leading cleaning products firm has teamed up with Falmouth University to shed light on the environmental impact of 'over-washing' clothes. Their research reveals that 18% of the 2,000 Britons interviewed mistakenly believed that washing clothes less often has no effect on the planet, and 1 in 10 people admitted to feeling societal pressure to do their laundry more frequently. Washing clothes releases harmful microplastics into water systems, while detergent pollution disrupts natural ecosystems. But is reducing laundry the key to sustainability? Model and environmental activist, Lily Cole believes it is, and advocates for a "long-term relationship with clothes" to encourage more mindful and sustainable habits. Surprisingly, 75% of people report feeling 'judged' for rewearing clothes, prompting the question: Is this something you experience too? #Sustainability #EnvironmentalImpact #Laundry #Pollution #Microplastics

🏥🧒🏽🤡 Turns out clowns aren’t just for laughs—they might help hospitalised children recover faster! A recent study by Carmel Medical center, Israel, involved children hospitalised with pneumonia, who received medical clown visits. The results showed that kids only spent 44 hours at the centre if clowns visited, compared to 70 if clowns didn't. By playing music, encouraging independence, and lowering stress, the clowns helped improve heart rates and breathing, making recovery quicker. Kelsey Graber explains that play can “improve young people’s sense of well-being, mood, energy levels, and sense of confidence and ability in their bodies”. Hospitals aside, play is a key pillar to our culture, here at Curious PR, given its numerous benefits in terms of boosting cohesion, creativity and collaboration. Want to know more about our 'Nurture, Dig, Balance, and Play' culture approach? Check out our blog on the European Agency Awards website, where we're nominated for 'Best Agency Culture’. So, how important do YOU feel play is, to our health and wellbeing? 🌎 📰 📥 They say that "Our Health is our Wealth", and at Curious PR, we agree. No person - let alone nation - can grow if it’s ailing. We’ve always insisted that good health requires a healthy environment, which means we all need to get better at using our planetary resources – whether we're growing food, designing new cities, or recycling lithium batteries. Given the world's poly-crises - from ageing populations with multiple illnesses, to record-breaking land and sea temperatures - it's hard to keep being 'a cautious optimist’, and it's arguably trickier to get your message across to the intended audience. But, at Curious, we love a communications challenge, and the results we get for clients are being recognised in yet more award nominations. Check out our latest newsletter, intended to stir curiosity and give our take on the stories that matter, with predictions on their direction. From the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on culture and healthcare, to the REAL intelligence of whales – a species that can teach us a few things about ‘being human’! 🐟📺🌊 Last week saw the release of 'Billionaire Island' on Netflix - a highly anticipated series, here at Curious PR! At first glance, the show presents itself as a comedic look at billionaires vying for control over Norway’s industrial fish farming sector. But, beneath the wit lies a far more unsettling truth. This isn’t just a fictional story about wealthy tycoons playing with power and salmon – the series sheds light on the devastating impact of industrial fish farming, something we’ve seen firsthand through our work with the Rauch Foundation including as part of the #SavePoros and #FishFarmsOut campaign. Since last year, we’ve been campaigning to protect the beautiful Greek island of Poros from a whopping 25% takeover of its land and coast from industrial fish farms. Recently, we rallied 175 global voices to urge the UN's FAO to stop labelling industrial fish farming as ‘sustainable.’ Why? Because destroying marine environments for profit is anything but. It takes 1.2kg of wild fish to produce just 1kg of farmed fish—a practice that harms oceans and 'steals' nutrition from food-insecure communities. Yet, most people still don’t realise the damage caused en route to having farmed fish on their plate. ‘Billionaire Island’ will make you laugh, and comedy can be a powerful tool for tackling the darker side of human nature. But this environmental crisis is no joke. Read why at www.FishFarmsOut.org. Kudos to the producers of the show, and to Netflix for helping shine a light on this havoc-wreaking business. #BillionaireIsland #Netflix #FishFarmsOut #Sustainability #EnvironmentalCrisis #AquacultureExposed

🔊🏙️🤰🏼 Could noise pollution harm women’s fertility? Pollution is affecting more than just the air we breathe—it may be influencing women’s reproductive health via their ears as well as their lungs. A recent study published in the BMJ investigated women aged 30-45 with <2 children who lived in Denmark between 2000 - 2017. The findings are eye (ear?) opening: exposure to road traffic noise increases the risk of infertility for women aged 35+ by a whopping 14%. Given growing concern about declining birth rates and increasing maternal ages in Western countries, researchers stress that wider ‘knowledge on environmental pollutants affecting fertility is crucial’. If these findings are confirmed by future studies, addressing air and noise pollution could become critical for safeguarding reproductive health. With infertility affecting 1 in 7 UK couples, understanding these environmental impacts is pivotal. Will YOU be taking any steps to mitigate your exposure to noise pollution? In recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day, the Curious team is spotlighting a powerful campaign that speaks to the heartbreaking reality of youth suicide. Shockingly, suicide is now leading cause of death for those aged 15-34 in the UK, with young women under 24 forming the fastest-growing at-risk group in history. From Sept 9th-11th, visit Westfield London to experience the ‘Missed Birthday’ installation created by CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) and adam&eveDDB. The display features 6,929 birthday balloons—each representing a young life lost to suicide before they could celebrate another birthday. Visitors will hear moving voice notes from families and friends who have lost a young person to suicide, offering personal reflections of grief and hope. As part of their mission, CALM has introduced the ‘CALM C.A.R.E. Kit’—a collection of practical tools designed to equip trusted adults with resources to help prevent youth suicide. This year’s theme for World Suicide Prevention Day is ‘Changing the Narrative on Suicide’. Will you help us #StartTheConversation to reduce stigma and foster open, supportive dialogue around mental health? #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #MissedBirthdays #CALM #SupportEachOther #TalkAboutSuicide
