Together with the University of Surrey, we're carrying out novel research at Euston Tower; testing if we are able to harvest and reuse – rather than downcycle – concrete from an existing structure. Adapting our buildings while minimising embodied carbon is a big challenge. As we work to reimagine Euston Tower in Camden, we're looking for new and innovative ways to minimise the environmental impact of our developments, in line with our progressive circular economy strategy. Watch below to hear more about the test from British Land Development Director, Tim Downes, and 3XN/GXN Senior Associate, Sustainability Engineer adam ozinsky, and stay tuned to see how the slab performs and if we can successfully upcycle! Circulating materials within the built environment maximises their potential and supports a low carbon economy. At British Land, we've evolved the waste hierarchy to structure our approach to low-carbon materials management:   🔃Direct Reuse. Reusing materials and products with little or no loss value and minor interventions to the material. At 1 Triton Square, existing façade panels were reused in the new scheme, avoiding carbon-intensive recycling and virgin materials, leading to significant embodied carbon savings.   👆Upcycling. Transforming or remanufacturing waste products and materials into products and materials of higher quality/value. At Exchange House, the original marble reception flooring was removed and cut into smaller pieces. Seventy per cent was used for new terrazzo flooring, and the rest was reintroduced into other parts of the building.   ♻️Recycling. Converting materials or products into something of the same value and/or quality to the original material. At Euston Tower, British Land and Arup have collaborated with Saint Gobain in developing a technique to return glass to the float line, creating a closed-loop process that retains high-value materials and reduces carbon emissions, challenging traditional downcycling.   Find out more about our approach, and how with a common language and framework, we can drive forward a low carbon future through the built environment: https://lnkd.in/eVXj4SwR #GreenerSpaces #Sustainability #CircularEconomy 3XN/GXN
