    The ‘Lazy W’...📈 Typically, we’ve heard of the W-shaped recession; economic decline, followed by a short period of growth, then falling back into recession before finally recovering. The last few years have certainly been ‘up/down’ journey for the recruitment industry. This last ‘up’ has felt like a prolonged phase – coined as ‘The Lazy W’ in SIA’s Staffing Trends 2025 report. In the UK, some anticipated turn-of-year momentum has been a little stunted by lingering uncertainty around the impact of government changes, and challenging conditions remaining in some sectors, seeing industry leaders’ reducing profit guidance. That said, lots of specialist agencies have continued to thrive and many had strong starts to the year. Great to see pay-off for those who focused on transformation efforts during the quieter periods, to drive efficiency/maximise productivity and spring-out the traps at the first positive signs. Eager to see how 2025 plays out, and optimistic for those who made good investments and streamlined processes, to capitalise as the market builds momentum.
