If high power densities combined with reliable operation are to be attained in EV drive systems, efficient and dependable cooling is essential. Our cooling system facilitates efficient transfer and removal of heat from key drive components by immersing them in an oil with outstanding thermal and dielectric properties. The oil is circulated continuously, and the flow rate of the oil is dynamically controlled in real-time, ensuring optimum heat transfer in all operating conditions. We're working hard to develop new anode materials that make possible storage batteries with performance equal to, or better than, current types but at lower cost and with greatly reduced environmental impact. Our patented hard-carbon anode materials are produced from a readily available form of biowaste that currently goes to landfill. Martin Boughtwood, CTO, comments on a feasibility study that looks at how our unique motor technology can be deployed to provide important benefits for marine propulsion: “For marine applications, we can readily scale the Pareta® concept to produce machines that will continuously deliver 3 MW of power and a torque of 30,000 Nm with an operating efficiency of up to 99%. This opens the way for clean merchant vessels with much lower operating costs than those powered by conventional engines. The power density of Pareta® motors is also way ahead of ordinary motors. We've reached an advanced stage in a feasibility study that looks at how our unique motor technologies can be deployed in the marine propulsion sector. The novel multiple parallel architecture of our Pareta® drive system will define a system-level segmented driveline optimised for marine applications and capable of delivering approximately 3 MW power. Utilising a next-generation marine fuel cell system, the concept will provide zero-emission power for ships, saving approximately 1700 kg of CO2-eq per hour at 3 MW compared with diesel-powered vessels. We're excited to announce a pivotal moment in our M-TORX project. Our goal? An EV motor without permanent magnets. The early results are promising, with it delivering 85% of the performance of a permanent magnet motor, and there is significant scope for refinements to further improve this already impressive figure.
