TNW’24 Conference, you were remarkable! The #TNWTalks panel titled “Startup Founders and Policy: Bridging the Gap Between Technology and Government” was a great opportunity to share the stage with curious speakers and representatives from ACT | The App Association. Special thanks to Chelsea Thomas for excellent moderation and to my fellow panelists Carlo Ferretti and Donny Wals—you were amazing! I am a true advocate for fostering #Tech Ecosystems & Communities. Participation in policy conversations helps SMEs & Startups learn about other businesses facing similar issues and gives them a bigger voice with policymakers. Let's create as many circles as possible to bring change where it is crucially needed! ⭕ I am happy that deverium is a member of many impactful communities like ACT | The App Association! #TheNextWeb, thank you. 'Our unique needs as SMEs must be recognized by policymakers to foster innovation and growth.' - Carlo Ferretti Our recent panel at TNW, 'Startup Founders and Policy: Bridging the Gap Between Technology and Government,' brought together a sampling of our members to discuss how SMEs can effectively engage in policy discussions, particularly around AI, IP, and competition. Key Takeaways: 🌐 Connecting Industries with Funding: Carlo Ferretti from 3DXR highlighted the importance of not basing policy solely on big corporate needs, as this overlooks the unique needs of SMEs and regional differences, especially within the EU. 🌐 Fostering Technology Ecosystems: Erika Maslauskaite from Deverium shared that participating in policy conversations helps SMEs learn about other businesses facing similar issues and gives them a bigger voice with policymakers. 🌐 Influencing Policy Implementation: Donny Wals from donnywals.com emphasized the need for SMEs to engage with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) due to its grey areas and the potential for SMEs to influence its implementation. 🌐 Impact of Digital Identity Regulation: Erika Maslauskaite also highlighted the impending impact of digital identity regulation on fintech, urging SMEs in that space to stay informed. 🌐 Unique SME Relationship with Regulation: Carlo Ferretti stressed that SMEs have a unique relationship with business, industry, and regulation that policymakers shouldn't ignore. 🌐 Avoiding Growth-Restricting Regulations: Donny Wals remarked on the ease of starting a company today and warned against regulations that slow down growth and innovation. This panel, led by our very own Chelsea Thomas, underscored that while regulation is essential, it must consider SMEs' and startups' diverse and unique needs to foster innovation and growth. By engaging in policy discussions, SMEs can ensure their voices are heard and shape a regulatory environment that supports their success. We’re grateful to have had this important discussion with Carlo Ferretti (3DXR), Erika Maslauskaite (deverium), Donny Wals (donnywals.com), and Chelsea Thomas (ACT | The App Association)! #TechPolicy #Startups #SMEs #Innovation #Regulation #TechEcosystem #PolicyEngagement #TNW
