Progress on Cranfield University's Project 1 is well underway, with the steel frame of the single-storey industrial building now taking shape. 🏗️ This robust steel portal frame has been designed to provide clear internal spans, maximising flexibility within the hydrogen test cell workshops. Strategically positioned bracing bays ensure lateral stability, while the building envelope is configured to accommodate high levels of service integration. To support the building’s stability and durability, we have implemented reinforced concrete foundations, carefully optimised to enhance bearing capacity and minimise settlement. Alongside the main structure, progress continues on the service and delivery yard, as well as the private access roads and car parking facilities, which are designed to accommodate heavy vehicle loading. The drainage strategy complements the wider developments sustainable approach by incorporating permeable paving to manage surface water runoff, while two dry attenuation basins provide temporary storage and controlled discharge. Dice is delighted to share that planning has been submitted for the expansion of Anchor Group's Cardamom Court, a £10 million extra care facility located in Newham. Delivering 34 new one-bedroom apartments across a four-story extension, the new development shall compliment the existing 4 storey building which is being remodelled, increasing capacity to 70 apartments. Our team are proud to have been appointed via the Anchor Group development framework to deliver civil and structural consultancy services across RIBA stage 01 to 06, including substructure, superstructure, flood risk and drainage design. In collaboration with Dice Environmental, we also carried out phase 1 and 2 ground investigations and contaminated land surveys to ensure full environmental compliance. The expansion not only increases capacity but also enhances communal spaces and bedroom suites within the existing facility. We are currently working on the detailed design of a unique sculpture as part of the Boston Town Centre Regeneration, utilising parametric modelling in Grasshopper to mathematically define the 3D curved geometry, allowing us to integrate the complex form into our analysis and BIM modelling. 🌀 Working closely with the main contractor, Lindum Group, we are currently exploring various construction methods to develop a cost-effective and buildable solution. Paired with our material investigations that has considered options such as steel and timber, we are currently completing the detailed structural design with a scheme that incorporates curved steel CHS tube sections to achieve the complex geometry and large cantilevers. We are currently appointed across multiple projects by our client Cranfield University, with a total of 7 projects currently at various stages of development. 🤝 🎉 This includes a new £10m laboratory building, £5m Research Facility, a 35m tall radar tower (which will support the operational airport located on campus), as well as a plethora of decarbonisation projects, supporting the University’s sustainability and zero carbon strategy. During a recent site visit we were pleased to see the completed Thermal Stores project standing tall, as well as progress being made on foundation and substructure elements to the new Research Building. We are excited to support Cranfield University on its journey, whilst playing a small part bringing these projects to life.
