Award-winning training provider - on a mission to bridge the gap between education and employment.

About us

Digital Innovators is an award-winning training provider specialising in giving young people access to fulfilling career opportunities. Working alongside further education colleges, schools and local authorities, we provide ambitious students the opportunity to learn life skills, work on live business projects and unlock their innate digital and problem-solving skills. Our aim is to enhance equal access to lifelong learning for all age groups in formal, non-formal and informal settings, upgrading knowledge, skills and competences, and promoting flexible learning pathways. Our ambition is to increase the number of people with technical and job specific skills, particularly at level 3 and above and into higher and advanced level apprenticeships, to support business growth. Our offering is “Demand Led”, working with local employers in key growth sectors that include Life and Health sciences, Business, Professional and Financial Services, Digital Technologies and Construction & Infrastructure. In all these sectors we have observed a significant demand for growth, up-skilling and the deployment of emerging technologies. We see “Digital & Tech” as being pervasive, and needed, across all the sectors and therefore place it at the centre of our offering as the enabler to solving business problems. Digital Innovators offer a unique and comprehensive pre-employment program that identifies talent and builds confidence in learners at NVQ3+. We do this by promoting inclusion, raising aspirations, and delivering an employment and skills system that responds quickly and effectively to changing business needs. Our method adopts “project-based learning” and developing “cognitive aptitude” to bridge the gap between education and employment.

Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy & Skills at Birmingham City Council, alongside Deputy Mayor at West Midlands Combined Authority

A highlight this summer has been joining Severn Trent and Digital Innovators at Millennium Point at their Innovation Summer Camp! I was blown away by the young people's innovative ideas 💡 some of which were very marketable in today's society and certainly needed. Teamwork, communication skills, creativity, and project management were all 👌🏾. The final presentations were well , though, brilliantly articulated with passion and highlighted lots of leadership skills. Great to see young people boost their confidence, use their creativity, and build their team building and communication skills! I was pleased to see a diverse group of young people who had lots of fun, were enthusiastic, built on their core skills, and also saw alternative career options for the future.

Unlocking potential, making a difference to young people and local employers

The young people of the West Midlands represent one of the most diverse communities anywhere in the country. As a result their innovation and ingenuity when tackling real world problems whilst attending Digital Innovators during our courses never cease to surprise and inspire me. This was particularly true of the latest summer camp attended by 11-14 year olds which ended today. The students presentations were exceptional. The West Midlands has always produced fantastic engineers and innovation and our young people continue to demonstrate this historic trend. Thank you Abigail Vlahakis and the team at Millennium Point as well as the event’s sponsors Severn Trent for trusting in Digital Innovators to deliver the August summer camp. And a huge congratulations to all of the students that attended over the past four weeks.

With today’s exam results being published we wish all of the students we have worked with in the last twelve months good luck! Remember whatever your results today it’s not the exam results that define who you are but it’s your unique strengths and skills and how you use them. You are unique and therefore can hold your head high whatever your results.

I support Business & HR Leaders deliver tangible results through their people by providing bespoke development solutions to be sought out as an employer of choice - attracting, retaining, and promoting the best talents.

I was so impressed! Yesterday I visited Mick Westman at the #MilleniumPoint to observe the #DigitalInnovator’s summer boot camp for 11 to 14-year-olds sponsored by #SevernTrentWater. I met coaches John, Kim, and Peter from the team, along with volunteers from the Severn Trent team. 13 young people worked on a project with the context provided by Severn Trent. I was heartened and inspired by the students. Post-pandemic many young people have struggled with social skills, confidence, and teamwork. I observed the thought process, maturity, and passion for the sustainability of the group. Their independent and team thinking, and way of collaborating was even better than I have seen with people who are already working! The short film below shares some pictures about how much fun the group had, how interactive it was, and how they talked with confidence about their ideas on flip charts and with the use of Minecraft and Lego. The coaches provided encouraging feedback to provide insight for the young people about their unique skills and abilities. I worked previously with the Digital Innovator social enterprise, when I worked at BNP Paribas, as a Senior HR leader. The Digital Innovator model offers a fantastic opportunity for businesses. The programme provides corporate social responsibility (CSR) work experience opportunities for young people. They gain valuable exposure and employable skills to bridge the gap between education and employment. Imagine spotting your diverse next-generation early talent while providing opportunities for young people to experience real-life business challenges. The students work on projects to learn skills like creativity, communication collaboration, and critical thinking. Their Digital Innovators learn flexibility, adaptability, and resilience all behaviours that employers want to benefit from and build upon. If you want to provide CSR support, then this is a worthy cause for employers. You will demonstrate your support in the community, help young people get work-ready, and make a commitment towards your own future early talent attraction. Contact me and I can link you to the team or contact Mick directly. #Digitalskills #confidence #innovation #transitiontowork #digitalinnovators # #CSR
