Investing in rivers and reducing spills 🌊 We know you care about rivers and streams – and so do we. That’s why we’ve delivered 1,500 upgrades to cut spills from storm overflows. We’d love to share some of these improvements with you - an average of 34 upgrades every week - from around our region. 📍 Spotlighting Worcestershire Meet Ben, who has transformed the Lower Moor Sewage Treatment works in Worcestershire, by increasing capacity with the installation of four new Submerged Aerated Filter (SAF) units. SAF units are innovative devices that filter and aerate wastewater, providing a high level of treatment before it returns to local waterways, reducing environmental impact. There’s more to do – but we’re committed to going further and faster to improve our rivers, our ambitious plans mean we’re spending around £2billion over the next five years to improve river health. And we’re fast tracking the delivery of an additional 600 solutions, by autumn 2025. 💧 Learn more about how we're investing into your rivers and reducing spills across our region: https://lnkd.in/e_KUaAa2 #riverhealth #worcestershire #getriverpositive #investment #reducingspills

Life. At Severn Trent. Our people are what makes us and caring for our wonderful water is at the heart of what we do.
About us
Water is wonderful. Without it we’d be lost. With it, everything’s possible. For every toothbrush, for every loo flushed. For the hot showers, the cool drinks, the cups of tea. But it’s not just at the heart of our homes. It’s at the heart of everything; our schools, our businesses, our hospitals. Saving lives, helping communities thrive. We’re Severn Trent, a diverse and amazing group of people who want to keep it that way. We bring you clean water and we take it away safely too. But it’s not just what we do. It’s how we do it: not just talking, but going over and above. Stepping up and rolling our sleeves up. It’s because we care. Not only about our water but our corner of the country. And we care for our amazing people who make all this possible. Don’t just take our word for it; we’re a Glassdoor Top 50 Company – one of the best employers in the UK right now. At Severn Trent, we do more, because we care.

In support of World Down syndrome Day, we’re sharing Ed’s inspiring story. Ed is the first Ranger with Down syndrome working in the conservation industry in the UK. He's based at one of our reservoirs, Tittesworth Water in Staffordshire. Fewer than 5% of people who have a learning disability are in paid employment, but 86% of people who have a learning disability and do not have a paid job would like one, and we are committed to helping change this. Before becoming a Ranger, Ed spent his time volunteering with us and studying horticulture, now putting his passion for nature into practice. Hear from Ed in the video below and how he hopes his story will help inspire others find their dream job too. #WeDoMoreBecauseWeCare #WorldDownSyndromeDay

Today we’ve announced a new programme, that’s seeing public and private sectors coming together and opening doors to 100 NEET (not in employment, education or training) care experienced young people. We're creating work experience opportunities unique to care leavers, that will positively shape a young person’s life, and allows businesses to meet many talented, skilled and multidimensional young people. Severn Trent, NHS Derby and Derbyshire Integrated Care Board (ICB), Wincanton, Kier Group, Birmingham Airport, Dodd Group, Pertemps Network Group are some of the businesses collaborating to address barriers faced by these young people and providing valuable placements. ReGenerate’s latest policy report shows that school leavers in care are four times more likely to be NEET than their peers, with one third of young care leavers experiencing homelessness within two years of leaving care. Neil Morrison, HR Director says: “If we’re really going to help make that difference and impact, it's clear collaboration is key. “We know that young people that don’t have any work experience are way more likely not to go into education, any employment or type of training – so these 100 opportunities have the true potential to change the course of a young person’s life." With around 1m NEET young people in the UK currently – the highest level in more than a decade - we'd love to hear from more businesses and organisations and work together in getting young people into work. If you want to join us in making a difference and explore opportunities together, get in touch in the comments or drop us a message. Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/eQpEz49U

This week we're spotlighting some of our river health investment in Shropshire 🌊. Around eight miles southwest of Shrewsbury is the village of Pontesbury. The Rea Brook runs to the north of the village on its way to the Severn. The Brook, which is home to salmonid fish, flows through the Reabrook Valley Country Park, notable for otters and orchids. At Pontesbury Treatment Works we’ve installed a brand-new storm tank which will provide an additional 70,000 litres of storage – equivalent to more than 800 bathtubs. This means during heavy rainfall we can hold more stormwater and prevent spills from entering local rivers. This solution, along with others we are delivering across Shropshire, is all part of our commitment to healthier rivers across the region. There’s more to do – but we’re committed to going further and faster to improve our rivers. Our ambitious plans mean we’re spending a further £2billion over the next five years to improve river health, and we’re fast tracking the delivery of an additional 600 solutions, by autumn 2025. 💧 Learn more about how we're investing into your rivers and reducing spills across our region: https://lnkd.in/e_KUaAa2 #riverhealth #worcestershire #getriverpositive #investment #reducingspills

Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College won the Worcestershire NeighbourGood award, receiving £2,500 and volunteer support from us. Our volunteers assisted with building, painting, and gardening tasks, transforming a former caretaker’s bungalow into a supportive space for students who struggle with regular attendance. This included creating a therapeutic garden area where students can care for animals and grow vegetables. Greg McClarey, Headteacher at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, said: "We are thrilled to have won the NeighbourGood award scheme. The redevelopment of the bungalow has been a real community team effort, and we are now able to complete the last piece of the jigsaw and develop the outside area. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who voted for our project and hope to be able to open the bungalow to students early in the New Year." The NeighbourGood community initiative was launched by Severn Trent to support local causes that matter with practical volunteers. The college's project came through a judging panel of independent local figures, including councillors and journalists, before winning the public vote. Stay tuned for more updates on the NeighbourGood winners and their stories!

The Better Together Community group clearly won the hearts of the public, as they were crowned the Staffordshire winners for our NeighbourGood scheme in the public vote. They received £2,500 to fund some material costs of the project, and a few weeks ago, a group of Severn Trent volunteers visited the group to help run the café, support community activities, and assist with physical and mental support services. The project aims to support disadvantaged families in North Staffordshire by offering guidance, a safe space, and activities to improve their well-being. “Hug in a Mug”, one of their community projects, provides affordable food and social contact to tackle loneliness, with free lunches on Wednesdays. Bridge, who works at Better Together, said: "We were absolutely thrilled and sincerely appreciated the invaluable support of Severn Trent Water. Your kindness empowered us to make a lasting impact in the community, and we were truly thankful for your dedication to our shared mission." Stay tuned over the coming weeks as our NeighbourGood winners continue to receive support and we share their stories.
