Hispanic Heritage Month runs from 15 September to 15 October, and the experience of Hispanic people at work was the topic discussed at Diversity Network’s LiveMeet event by Juan Diego (JD) Valladares-Williams-Williams, an emotional intelligence trainer. JD has worked with Harvard University and is a published scholar in human behavioural research at Columbia University’s Gender, Sexuality, and Health Center. JD moved aged 11 from Lima in Peru to New York and says he understands first-hand the challenges of being his authentic self in the workplace. Many Hispanics, says JD, are first-generation – doing things first, such as studying at university and developing themselves in the professional workplace so JD shared about the importance of mentorship as well as discussing terminology, collectivism and community. He also included challenges and tips for those wanting to support Latinos in their workplace. Read our full story here: https://lnkd.in/eBWNpZeC

"We have found that workplace factors are much stronger than individual factors when it comes to measuring mental health: people assume it is individual attitudes but, in fact, how workplaces are designed and managed have a greater impact on individuals," says Dr Kevin Teoh, who spends his time researching ways to develop healthier workplaces. He is a psychologist and the Programme Director of the MSc Organisational Psychology at Birkbeck, University of London. "By shifting the narrative to emphasise the necessity of change to the working environment will mean we can improve workplace wellbeing. The president of the International Paralympic Committee called for an "inclusion revolution" as he officially closed the Paralympics at Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024. Andrew Parsons said: "Words of praise must be replaced by words of conviction to break down barriers." He encouraged society as well as future Olympic hosts to prioritise inclusivity: "...if we can remove barriers and allow athletes with disabilities to excel at a global stage, as we do in the Games, we can do it everywhere in society. And this is the strongest message." Mr Parsons made the point that 2.5 million tickets were sold for the Paralympics in France and it was broadcast to more places than ever before: "this shows commercial value," he said. #Diversity #Inclusion #DiversityAndInclusion #InclusionAndDiversity #DiversityNetwork #Paralympics #ParisParalympics #DisabilityInclusion #Accessibility #AccessibleSport #SportForAll
