Some exciting new water-y research to kick off the year by some of our scientists and partners! 💧 🌊
It’s been a very wet start to the year… not in terms of weather, but in terms of publications 💧 🌊 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 ‘𝘄𝗲𝘁’ 𝗽𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 to share (one marine, one freshwater). 1️⃣ Inventory of marine citizen science initiatives (#MARCSI) Some 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 from the paper: ✅ We were able to identify 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀; ✅ Marine citizen science has a long history; 54 of the projects identified have been 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟯𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀; ❌ 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗹𝘆, and only two (!) of the projects complied with the FAIR principles. As a bonus, the paper also includes some analysis of the >20,000 datasets collected.
