💧📣 On Sunday we were proud to join the March for Clean Water alongside our friends at River Action UK , The Rivers Trust, Surfers Against Sewage, The WI (National Federation of Women's Institutes) and thousands of others to demand Government do more to save our freshwater. Our rivers and freshwater habitats are at crisis point, and we need to turn the tide now. We want to see: - The law enforced - Pollution to be unprofitable - Focused targets - Nature-based solutions implemented - Communities engaged and empowered We believe in the power of data for change. During the Great UK WaterBlitz, taking place twice a year, citizen scientists across the UK collect data to evidence the poor health of our nation’s freshwaters. You can view our latest report and sign up to join the next WaterBlitz on our website ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e5GVxhpE #WaterQuality #MarchForWater #MarchForCleanWater #CitizenScience #GreatUKWaterBlitz

Last month we ran a workshop at the #BritishScienceFestival in London. The festival aims to connect with diverse audiences and ignite curiosity about science. Just like the festival, we seek to enhance public understanding of environmental issues and empower communities. The workshop was inspired by our #NatureinCities work, exploring the importance of urban greenspaces. We invited participants to imagine a bold sustainable future. Our Science Coordinator, Georgie, shares more on how it went in our blog 👇

🏫 ✨ A huge thank you to our partners Admiral Group Plc for supporting and capturing the transformation of our first Green Earth School in Wales (watch the video below)! 🌱 Through our #GreenEarthSchools programme, we collaborate with school communities in urban areas to turn their grounds into nature-rich spaces for exceptional outdoor learning and play. Find out more 👉
The first Green Earth School in Wales has been built! As proud partners of Earthwatch Europe, we’re supporting the creation of Green Earth Schools in Bridgend and Cardiff. With the Bridgend build complete, it marks the very first Green Earth School in Wales! Green Earth Schools provide nature-immersed spaces for pupils to be more connected to the outdoors while they learn. Just as they did for the designing of the spaces, the pupils got involved on the build days too. 💡 How can policy support citizen science? Our Director of Science and Policy, Dr Sasha Woods, wrote a piece for Comment Central on how policy can better support citizen science by recognising it as a legitimate scientific approach and integrating its findings into official monitoring and reporting. In the environmental sector, citizen science has a key role to play. Citizen scientists are capable of generating extensive, accurate, and timely information at local, national and even global levels - helping to create data for positive environmental change. With the right policy support, the impact of citizen science will multiply – for people, for science and for the environment. #GreatUKWaterBlitz #CitizenScience #policy https://lnkd.in/en7mbTeg

💧 How clean is your local stream or river? Find out about the state of our fresh waters in our September Great UK WaterBlitz report! Between 20 and 23 September, over 4,500 people across the UK used our FreshWater Watch water testing kit to measure their local water quality, collecting more than 2,300 datapoints. It's been fantastic to see this citizen scientists data make national headlines this week in The Guardian, on BBC News, in BBC Countryfile Magazine and many others. Together we can fight for real change!
