As we head into winter, the team at Newhaven swing bridge have been working beneath the road, preparing the structure, cleaning away rust and tackling build up. Regular maintenance like this ensures the bridge remains safe, reliable, and ready for the colder months ahead.

Last week, we continued our commitment to safety by conducting a thorough site inspection with our Drainage Team and our supply chain partner, Drainline. The team visited a work site to get a close look at the features of a jetting lorry in action. This vehicle in particular was fitted with a state-of-the-art CCTV system which has drastically reduced incidents, making worksites safer for everybody. The team also explored extra safety measures for future projects and emphasised the importance of raising all observations, both good and bad. Ensuring a safe and efficient work environment is always our top priority, and we're committed to ensuring the safety of everyone on and around our work sites. #SafetyFirst #Drainage #BusinessImprovement #Winter

On 16 October, 5 members of the East Sussex Highways team visited Seaford Head to support with Year 11 Mock Interviews for the second year in a row. The volunteers spent a total of 35 hours interviewing and mentoring a group of Year 11 students, to develop interview skills, understanding of employer needs and raise aspirations. The team provided personalised feedback to each student to support them in their future endeavours and offer real life experience of networking with potential employers. We're excited to return next year and support even more young people in their future development. #BusinessSupport #MockInterviews #SeafordHead #EastSussexCountyCouncil

The sun was shining as an unusual sight took to the roads in East Sussex yesterday. Two large sections of electrical equipment made its way in convoy from Shoreham Port to the site of the National Grid’s new substation at Little Horsted. Weighing 170 tonnes each and moving at a top speed of 12mph, the convoy made steady progress throughout the day, thanks to the combined efforts of Allely’s, National Highways, Brighton & Hove City Council and Sussex Police. Our teams were on hand to help the convoy once it left the A27 at the Southerham Roundabout, passing through the Cuilfail Tunnel, on to the A26, and then A22 towards Little Horsted. Where needed, lights, bollards or anything else that might get in the way of this mega load were removed to keep it on its important journey. Once passed, everything was returned to usual. Thank you to everyone for your patience and positive feedback.

We've recently repaired a broken drainage pipe in Church Lane, Pevensey to alleviate flooding to the carriageway and properties. The team also installed an inspection lid to a soakaway to ease future maintenance and cleaning. The site has been monitored and no further flooding has occurred. We thank the local residents for their patience whilst the works were carried out.

Last night, we teamed up with one of our Supply Chain Partners, Trenchline, to carry out collaborative safety inspections. This reinforces one of our key messages: We’re safe, and we make safety personal. Nothing is more important than the health, safety and wellbeing of our colleagues and the communities we serve. We are unrelenting and uncompromising to achieving Zero Harm. Ensuring a safe and efficient work environment is always our top priority, and we're committed to ensuring the safety of everyone on and around our work sites.

🌸 Today is World Menopause Day 🌸 Menopause is a natural phase of life, yet it remains a topic that too often goes undiscussed in workplaces. For many women and individuals experiencing menopause, the symptoms - ranging from hot flashes to brain fog and fatigue - can significantly impact their daily lives. 💡 So how can we be more supportive of our colleagues during this time? Start Conversations: Open, empathetic dialogue is key. By normalising the conversation around menopause, we help reduce the stigma and foster a more inclusive environment. Check In: A little kindness goes a long way. Simply asking how someone is doing can make them feel seen and supported. Let’s work together to create workplaces where everyone feels comfortable, empowered, and respected through all stages of life!
