The English HIV and Sexual Health Commissioners' Group
Public Health
A peer network providing a forum to improve population and patient level outcomes in sexual health and HIV in England.
About us
The English HIV and Sexual Health Commissioners’ Group (EHSHCG) is a peer network run by commissioners for commissioners. It aims to provide a strategic forum for those with commissioning responsibility for HIV, sexual health and reproductive services, for improved population and patient level outcomes in sexual health and HIV in England. The EHSHCG provides an important space for commissioners to meet, network and work together to improve the commissioning and delivery of integrated services and strategies locally. As well as this, the EHSHCG supports sector-led improvement (SLI) by promoting and facilitating SLI approaches to improve and challenge commissioning practice for HIV, sexual health and reproductive health services in England. The EHSHCG is supported by funding from the Local Authorities and secretarial support from the Association of Directors of Public Health (ADPH).

Over the last 10yrs we have seen: ▶️a significant⬆️in demand for sexual health services ▶️consistent real-terms ⬇️in funding That is untenable. We need a new 10-yr sexual & reproductive health strategy to ⬇️infection rates & ensure adequate funding. https://lnkd.in/eeB32ZeW

Headlines from the newly published 2023 HIV data today 👇 Some really interesting information, stark increases in diagnoses among heterosexual men and women Inequities remain in relation to testing and PrEP initiation in specific demographic groups Any thoughts? Please comment below 👇
We've released new data for 2023 this afternoon, revealing a significant increase in HIV diagnoses among heterosexuals in England: • 36% rise in diagnoses among heterosexual men (from 445 in 2022 to 605 in 2023) • 30% increase among heterosexual women (from 602 in 2022 to 780 in 2023) These statistics underscore a critical message: HIV does not discriminate based on sexual orientation or gender. Key actions for individuals: - Get tested regularly - HIV testing is free and confidential - Practice safe sex - consistent condom use remains an effective prevention method - Consider PrEP - Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis is available for those at higher risk For organisations: - Promote awareness campaigns in your workplace - Encourage regular testing among employees - Partner with local health authorities to provide on-site testing events Early detection leads to better outcomes. With proper treatment, individuals with HIV can lead long, healthy lives and prevent transmission to partners.
