Fantastic news for the South West region. This new investment has huge potential for unlocking more spin-out innovations from the six universities to create breakthrough solutions and scalable commercial opportunities that drive growth. 👏 Bristol Innovations
💸BIG NEWS💸 The SETsquared Partnership has announced plans for a new £300m spin-out-focused investment vehicle in partnership with QantX to drive innovation and growth in the South and West of England. The six university partners, including University of Bristol, have a combined research portfolio of over £600m and have produced over 230 spin-out companies. To support this rich pipeline of talent and innovation, we’re aiming to increase the amount of capital, expertise, and support available to spin-outs and start-up companies in our regions that are working in areas of true global impact – such as sustainability, clean energy, and transformative healthcare. Science Minister Sir Patrick Vallance said of the announcement: “The UK is home to brilliant innovators, and this investment vehicle that brings together six Universities with a private sector investment firm, QantX, will help turn great ideas into thriving companies that create high-skilled jobs and exciting new products.” Marty Reid, Executive Director, SETsquared, said: “The potential scale and quality of science and technology companies emerging from across the SETsquared University clusters is a match for any ecosystem. Creating this new investment vehicle could be a vital step forward in addressing funding gaps we see today, and through a deep connection with our support ecosystem, could inspire a new generation of talent who will get technologies out of the lab and shape the industries of tomorrow." 👉 Get the full story here: https://lnkd.in/e-bnaQ-Z University of Bristol Exeter Innovation Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd University of Southampton University of Bath University of Surrey Bristol Innovations BI Foresight Photo by Julian Preece #investment #innovation #spinouts
