Engineering Group of the Geological Society (EGGS)
Professional Organizations
A group for Engineering Geologists, Geoenvironmental and Geotechnical Engineers in the UK
About us
"Engineering Geology is the science devoted to the investigation, study and solution of the engineering and environmental problems which may arise as the result of the interaction between geology and the works and activities of man as well as to the prediction and of the development of measures for prevention or remediation of geological hazards." (IAEG statutes, 1992). The Engineering Group of the Geological Society (EGGS) is the largest of the Geological Society's Specialist Groups. Since its formation in 1964 EGGS has been the main focus for engineering geology in the UK. EGGS is the UK National Group of the International Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG). In the UK EGGS maintains links with learned societies, professional bodies and the Geological Society's Regional and other Specialist Groups. EGGS represents the Geological Society on The Ground Forum, the umbrella organisation for professional bodies and trade associations in ground engineering. EGGS actively supports training and professional development for engineering geologists, both pre- and post- chartership. EGGS organises a full programme of technical meetings and sets up working parties which have lead to a range of Special Publications and technical handbooks. We've taken a slightly different approach to communicating with our members from now on.... introducing our quarterly newsletter! 📣 📰 We all lead increasingly busy lives, so the newsletter will aim to summarise key messages from EGGS, reflect on previous events/successes and look ahead to future events on one succinct page. We'll also dedicate a section to our Engineering Group of the Geological Society - Early Career Group (EGGS EC) subcommittee every quarter too! This issue features the recent changes in committee roles for both EGGS and EGGS-EC and looks ahead to the final events of 2024, including our annual Glossop event on 21st November. Newsletters shall be posted on LinkedIn, as well as distributed via Jiscmail every quarter 🕒. Please feedback any improvements that you think could be made to this format 🙋♂️ ✅.

Busy, but a very productive day attending the International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment Executive Meeting. Thanks to EUROENGEO 2024 for hosting us in Dubrovnik and Jacobs & Engineering Group of the Geological Society (EGGS) for supporting my attendance. Looking forward to tomorrow’s annual Council meeting.
