What a fantastic week - thank you to everyone who turned out to celebrate the launch of our first dementia-friendly book Bewick Tales, created for & with people living with dementia to encourage reading for pleasure. We've had lovely feedback already and are looking forward to hearing what others think of the book. Twinned with opening of the B is for Bewick exhibition here at Newcastle City Council City Library, it was a day showcasing great examples of how museum collections can creatively engage people of all ages. Bewick Tales, by Sarah Lawrance & designed by Wendy Lewis, is available to buy from our shop for £15.99 or by emailing us at information@equalarts.org.uk https://lnkd.in/eJxKjidz Thanks to Gill, Anita and members of the user-research group for sharing their lived experiences of dementia, exhibition artist Michael Davies & to funders The National Lottery Heritage Fund & Innovate UK National Trust Bewick Society Dementia UK AIM - Association of Independent Museums Simon Lowe Independent Age

This is the week! After months of research & work we're publishing our first dementia-friendly book based on one of the North East's greatest artists, Thomas Bewick. Created with & for people living with dementia, Bewick Tales: Stories from the life and work of Thomas Bewick, focuses on creativity and living in the moment rather than relying on reminiscence. Available to buy from our online shop from March 21 (RRP £15.99) the book, written by Sarah Lawrance, has an uplifting, easy-to-follow narrative rich with details and imagery. “I like the bits that make you think and the bits that help you to spot things. There’s enough information to make it interesting but not so much that I'd struggle to read it.” Gill Taylor, research group participant “This is a lovely book - really well written, beautifully designed, informative, accessible.” North East author David Almond It features pieces from the globally significant Pease Collection at Newcastle City Council City Library & has been made possible with support from The Bewick Society National Trust Cherryburn Innovate UK
