📣 An exciting update for equiwatt! 🤝 We’re delighted to announce our new partnership contract with ScottishPower, part of the Iberdrola Group - one of the world’s largest integrated utility companies and a global leader in wind energy. ⚡ The collaboration aims to transform how ScottishPower customers manage their electricity consumption through our innovative and market-leading ‘virtual power plant’ technology and the cutting-edge Power Saver App. 📊 By seamlessly connecting to ScottishPower’s customer’s smart meters the Power Saver App gives them a straightforward way to participate in peak time energy events, including National Grid ESO’s Demand Flexibility Service (DFS) and the EQUINOX Project for heat pump owners, enabling them to earn rewards, cut carbon emissions and lower their energy bills. 🔔 Once set up, the Power Saver App notifies customers to participate in peak time energy events and rewards them with points for reducing their energy usage by performing simple actions such as turning off or avoiding the use of household appliances. These points can then be redeemed for a range of rewards including high street shopping vouchers or charity donations. This quote from The Association for Decentralised Energy's brilliant 'Demanding More' report highlights just one of the many reasons that the National Energy System Operator (NESO) need to reassess their approach to Demand Side Flexibility. 🌍💡 Exciting discussions at equiwatt's first energy roundtable! 💡🌍 We're thrilled to share insights from our recent energy roundtable in Durham, where leading voices in the North East came together to discuss the vital role of local communities in achieving the UK's net zero emissions target by 2050. At this event, attended by 25 guests including, Northern Powergrid's (NPG) Maurice Lynch, local authorities, housing associations, and tech innovators, we delved into critical topics shaping our energy future. Here are three key takeaways: 1️⃣ Energy Flexibility: NPG is prioritising energy flexibility, recognising its crucial role in the electrification and decarbonisation of the UK’s power. Maurice highlighted funding opportunities for innovative businesses that can support this transition. 2️⃣ Government Support: With a new government in place, there are promising proposals for greater investment in renewable energy and green technologies, creating more opportunities for enhanced demand flexibility. 3️⃣ Education & Awareness: To reach net zero, increased education and awareness about energy flexibility are essential, especially for low-income and vulnerable groups. NPG's £14.5m funded Community Distribution Systems Operator (DSO) programme is a step in this direction. This roundtable is just the beginning. We aim to foster collaboration, drive awareness, and engage with local communities to overcome energy challenges and seize new opportunities. The enthusiasm from our local community and the shared ambition to enhance green energy generation and innovative technologies were truly inspiring.
