We're thrilled to receive a £5,000 grant from Scotland Food & Drink for our #EatOutEdinburgh 2025 campaign! This initiative aims to celebrate our vibrant food and drink scene during the quieter months, encouraging locals to support their favourite eateries or try somewhere new. We have already begun planning an even bigger and better campaign in 2025. #ScotFoodTourism

About us
Essential Edinburgh was established to run Edinburgh's Central Business Improvement District (BID); a defined area where businesses vote to invest collectively in local improvements in addition to those provided by the Local Authority and Police. A BID is not a substitute for central or local government investment, but an additional investment to strengthen the local economy and give local businesses a unified voice, helping to provide an arena for businesses and local authorities to increase their understanding of each others priorities. Essential Edinburgh’s objectives are to: - Maintain a determined focus on supporting city centre business to increase customer numbers and revenue - Ensure the delivery of world-class environmental services within the city centre - Proactively market Edinburgh city centre as a world-class business, retail and tourism destination - Facilitate collaborative and productive relationships between city centre businesses and the public sector

The Edinburgh restaurant scene has a new offering..... Happy Lamb Hot Pot has now opened just off St Andrew's Square and is bringing the best Mongolian style hot pot to the city centre. This is their 4th UK restaurant following other openings in Holborn, Bayswater & Birmingham. Savills Global Retail and Leisure had the pleasure of assisting the landlord with securing this amazing operator who now sit alongside The Ivy, Gordon Ramsay's Street Kitchen, Wagamama, Gaucho and Dishoom. Restaurant heaven! Please feel free to get in touch with the team if you'd like any more detail or to discuss further restaurant opportunities in Edinburgh or Glasgow. #nationalretail #nationalleisure #savills #newentrants John Menzies Isla Monteith Charlie Hall Michelle McLaughlin

Following on from our recent post in relation to George Street in Edinburgh, it's great to see Whistles committing for a further 10 years at their existing premises at 97 George Street. As part of this lease regear, Whistles will be investing in this store with a refit commencing shortly. Savills Global Retail and Leisure advised the landlord on agreeing this transaction whilst Ivan Everitt at Brasier Freeth advised Whistles. Special thanks to Ivan for assisting with this one. Fresh analysis from our Insights team shows that the absence of tax-free shopping has cost retailers in the West End £220 million in unrealised sales in the first half of 2024 – following a total loss of £400m in 2023. Still, these numbers are just a small part of the story. “Fewer sales on the shop floor means fewer tourists in restaurants and hotels, and a knock-on impact on our entire tourism ecosystem”, New West End Company’s Chief Executive, Dee Corsi, points out. The removal of tax-free shopping is a powerful disincentive for international visitors, who can save up to 20% on purchases made in Continental Europe compared to those made in the U.K -- ultimately putting British businesses at serious disadvantage. We are calling on the Government to reinstate the policy without delay and return retailers in the country to a level playing field with their European counterparts. Exciting developments in #Edinburgh's cocktail scene as we continue to invest in the city's annual cocktail festival. Edinburgh Cocktail Week has grown to become the UK's largest festival of its type. This vibrant event not only highlights our city centre bars, but also boosts footfall, benefiting various businesses beyond just hospitality. Many retail shops join in the festivities with special offers for festival-goers. Organisers have just released details of this year's event which features various new experiences, including non-alcoholic options - cheers to that Gary Anderson-Morrey! https://lnkd.in/eA23wFpy
