Ethos is a bi-annual magazine. We tell sustainable stories, talk to ethical entrepreneurs and responsible businesses.

About us

Ethos is a bi-annual magazine for and about people who embrace new and innovative ways of doing business. We believe that business can be a force for good, so through Ethos, we aim to champion and highlight those who are changing the world through their ethical aims and innovative ideas. From our base in Liverpool, UK, we write about social enterprises and ethical businesses from all over the world. We look at great businesses and the sector’s success stories. They are great stories about community and responsibility, fresh ideas and free-thinking entrepreneurs. Our readers engage with our stories because they’re just that – great stories. Ethos highlights the businesses that surround us every day, the businesses that are making their mark and doing something different. The world of social enterprise is home to stories and successes which just don’t make conventional business sense, and these are the tales which draw people in and connect them to their local economies in a way that ‘business as usual’ can’t.

Hello friends, we hope you’re all well and enjoying the sunshine (if you're lucky enough to get some), wherever you are! 💚 Speaking of which, summer’s finally upon us and, for many of you, it can only mean one thing… Holidays! 🏖️ Whether you’re staying at home this year or heading abroad, this summer’s also a great opportunity to try out some of our July Green Swaps and discover some new ways of relaxing that are as good for the planet as well as your own wellbeing. 🌍️ Some of the things you could try include: 🧼 Swapping the liquid toiletries you usually take with you for biodegradable shampoo bars. 🌞 Ditching your regular big-brand (and typically chemical-packed) sun cream for reef-safe alternatives. 🛫 Going flight-free and reducing your carbon footprint by trying out different, greener forms of travel and transport. These are just some of the holiday-focused swaps that make up Challenge 7, and you can read why we’ve suggested them and see others on the Ethos website: https://lnkd.in/e9v5QbqC

They say “go big, or go home” but we’re saying “go big AND go home, to read said big book that you’ve chosen as your #TheBigRead this July.” 🫡 Why? Because @thebookshop_org_uk have set us all a summer reading challenge this month, in aid of supporting indie bookshops nationwide. Every book you read and recommend on your social media platforms is helping booksellers across the UK to keep their gateways to a billion faraway and fantastical worlds intact. Plus, you might be in for a chance to win a selection of bookish Bookshop goodies! Talk about winner winner, sorry I’m reading so I’ll probably skip dinner 🤷 Ethos is taking part too, reading big, reading widely, and reading one of the recommended books from Ethos founder, Fiona, in issue 20. If you’re looking for 31 practical ways to explore your creativity this summer, then try this on for size: . So, bookish beings, it’s time to read, recommend and repeat. As Taylor Swift herself said whilst she was holidaying here in her new favourite city; are you read-y for it? 📚

“Haven’t we all thought that Pandas have the best pearly whites we’ve ever seen? They might be morons when it comes to balance and avoiding head injury, but when it comes to dental care; they’re way ahead of the game. Brushing, flossing, possibly pole vaulting with bamboo, all because it is infinitely better than plastic use.” This month’s Green Swaps are grabbing Aqua by the scruff and saying “plastic? Ugh! So NOT fantastic.” By swapping our toothbrushes for bamboo ones, storing leftovers in glass containers, carrying reusable and sustainable bottles and even by taking part in Plastic Free July. It does what it says on the reusable tin. Are you in?

Meet: Plastic Free July. “A global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities,” hosted by Plastic Free Foundation. https://lnkd.in/f6rJSUr The mission, should you choose to accept it, is to reduce single-use plastics in everyday ways – doesn’t sound too impossible, does it? Whether that’s home, school, work, out-and-about activities like shopping and coffee-stopping, there are innumerable ways, little and large alike, that you can cut out plastics for the month – and maybe even beyond that. The Plastic Free July challenge website comes equipped with an array of resources; videos, posters, ideas, solutions, tips and tricks and tremendous encouragement, as well as a resourceful “Pesky Plastics” quiz helping you to figure out what plastics you can and can’t change from your everyday routines – all for (plastic) free! “With her long term work empowering local women and refugees, Turkish chef Ebru Baybara Demir is improving society by gastronomy. One plate at a time.” Gastronomy; surprisingly nothing to do with astronomer’s trapped gas. And everything to do with food, culture and empowerment. Read more about Ebru’s impact on her local community in the latest issue of Ethos: https://lnkd.in/eMpyJsKD

Young people just aren’t as connected with nature as they used to be. Which is why Agency for Nature isn't encouraging them to do what “used to be” done. Instead, they’re doing it differently. Sexily. 😈 If you want to know how to revive your love for Mother Earth – she is a MILF, after all – then grab your copy of Ethos 20 and find out how to do just that. Just don’t read it in front of your grandpa. 📗: https://lnkd.in/eMpyJsKD
