Providing social care in the Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham
About us
Father Hudson’s Caritas supports people in need throughout Staffordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and the West Midlands county, helping them to improve their lives. We provide residential care for older people and those with dementia; bungalows for adults with complex needs; domiciliary care for adults with learning disabilities; and supported living apartments for people who need assistance to live independently within their homes. We run a day service which hosts a wide range of activities for people with physical and learning disabilities. We operate New Routes fostering agency; recruiting, training and supporting foster parents for looked-after children. New Routes is a family-centred service that puts children and young people at the heart of its work. Our Origins service supports people whose lives have been affected by adoption through the society, child migration schemes, and those who were raised in the society’s former children’s homes. We offer a tracing service and can act as an intermediary in arranging reunions. In collaboration with others we run community-based projects, reaching out to people in great need. These include advice and practical support to at-risk women and families, people living in poverty, homeless people, and support for families affected by domestic violence or substance abuse. We also work with a number of schools to provide support for families. Father Hudson’s Caritas was previously known as Father Hudson’s Society and Father Hudson's Care, and has supported vulnerable people since its foundation in 1902. As the Social Care Agency of the Catholic Archdiocese of Birmingham, our mission is driven by Christ’s command to “love one another as I have loved you.” Our services are open to all, irrespective of beliefs, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or marital status. Our Chair of our Board of Trustees, Fionnuala Hegarty, shared her diary for a week. It shows some of the work that goes on behind the scenes to support Father Hudson's. It includes: - St Chad's Sanctuary 15th anniversary celebrations - Birmingham Inter-Faith Partnership event, invited by Mauricio Silva of the Columban Missionaries - Meetings with our CEO, Joanne Watters - Archdiocese Of Birmingham - meetings with Archbishop Bernard Longley and Canon Mervyn Tower - Volunteering at Tabor Living Thank you Fionnuala, for taking the time to share this and for all your hard work and dedication. It gives a great insight into what you do, and we couldn't be more grateful. #ThankfulThursday #FHC #Trustee

Our Brushstrokes Community Project has just published their fifth paper on Better Pathways for People with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF), in partnership with our friends and supporters Barrow Cadbury Trust. The paper "NRPF and public health: needs, gaps and best practice" can be found on Brushstrokes website on the link below, alongside previous research papers. https://lnkd.in/ebqGbRNF Our previous research papers covered the support of people with NRPF: - With EU pre settled status - Children with special needs - Adults with social care needs - Developing specialist multi agency support The papers aim to bring to the fore voices of people with lived experience of NRPF. The briefings can be used as helpful guides for frontline practitioners, and also have recommendations on how to develop more supportive pathways to better outcomes for people with no recourse to public funding (NRPF).

Zena Wedgwood and Laura did amazingly well at the weekend. They took on Stafford Borough Council and Freedom Leisure's Stafford Half Marathon. Laura completed it in 2 hours and 3 minutes, with Zena finishing in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Zena had aimed to complete it in less than 2.5 hours and smashed it, coming 63rd in her age category! Their fundraising target of £1000 was also smashed, with £1504 being raised to date before Gift Aid. If you'd like to donate and support families to enjoy new experiences and activities this summer holiday head here https://lnkd.in/efuqAWgs A huge thank you to everyone who has donated, and to Ant, Zena's partner, who helped Zena keep going all the way round! We are so proud of you all, what a fantastic achievement!❤️ #ThankfulTuesday #FantasticFundraisers #FamilySupport

Here's some positive news to start the week with - one of our guests at Tabor Living moved into his own property! Tabor Living work with people who have experienced homelessness or insecure housing. They provide a psychologically informed environment and work with the strengths of their guests to support them to move towards independence. We wish their guest the very best as he settles into his new home. ❤️ 🏠 ❤️
We recently helped one of our guests move into his new property. We wish him lots of happiness in his new home and good luck for the future. 🌟 #FeelGoodFriday
