Water for Life

About us

There are 663 million people in the world without access to safe drinking water. More than 1 in 10 of these people (77 million) live in India. Frank Water is two organisations that share a single vision: a global water system that can provide everyone, everywhere with access to enough, good-quality water to sustain their livelihoods, protect their health, and unlock their potential, which conserves the environment and, at the same time, maintains peace and political stability. Our approach goes beyond traditional interventions like digging wells and installing taps. We focus on solving complex problems to create long-lasting and systemic change, needed for a water-secure world. Since 2005, Frank Water has reached over 500,000 people in India, Nepal, and Kenya, and in the UK, we educate to inspire sustainable responsible water usage. Frank Water’s UK-based social enterprise delivers various services that not only raise funds to support our charitable programmes but also reinforce our mission to inspire the UK (and beyond) to adopt a more sustainable approach to water.

B Corp Month - week 2. PurposeFest vid from last week which captures well the energy of this amazing community. #bcorp #betterbusiness #businessonpurpose

  • It’s B Corp month!! 🙌 And yesterday we attended the absolutely awesome Purposefest organised by the amazing Andy Hawkins and a fab team of B Corps. The opening panel discussion was excellent. Tori Tsui Marvin Rees OBE and Lizzi Testani you really engaged the audience and were incredibly open and honest about the challenges facing society and businesses when it comes to balancing nature, climate and finance. It was also great to meet so many like-minded organisations at our stand and we had the joy of listening to the house band throughout the day. Thank you Andy Hawkins for inviting us to be part of this special event 💧 PurposeFest #BCorp #Bristol

  • What a brilliant couple of days in London at World Water-Tech as the charity partner💧Every year we learn so much more about remote sensors and waste water management and hear from some of the biggest decision makers in global water! Thank you to Rethink Events for your much appreciated on-going support of our work. Crucially for us this year, it was excellent to see Climate and Risk included across many of the panel discussions. Tom Freyberg’s panel discussion on Industry Collaboration for Water Stewardship alongside Eliza Roberts was excellent. It was very promising to hear about Microsoft’s commitment to water replenishment and their water positive strategy. We were fascinated by the conversation around innovation developments in the fight against water pollutants, tighter restrictions coming into play in Europe in 2025 and how seriously we should be taking PFAS. Finally it was promising to hear of the efforts from Francesca O'Hanlon, PhD and Sian Chapman, amongst others, that some of the globes biggest food and beverage companies are doing to minimise their water footprint and how they’re optimising water efficiency within their operations. We hope all attendees enjoyed our award winning bottled water, direct from a spring in Devon. Our bottled water is sold through Frank Water CIC and is available to purchase for events, offices, restaurants, hotels and cafes. We have a wide network of distributors across the UK. From pedalling cross-country between their restaurants on a Tour de Pie, to paddling across Bristol’s harbour on SUPs, to giving away free curry pies for our Karma Korma campaign, Pieminister's harnessed the power of pie-raise funds for Frank Water in many ways over the years.  And all the while, their involvement in our Drink Me Save Lives initiative has provided a constant drip, drip of much-needed funds throughout.  The premise is simple, which Pieminister tells us is what makes it easy for them to implement; customers who request tap water in their restaurants are invited to pay a discretionary 75p per table with their bill – a chance for those of us lucky enough to have constant access to safe drinking water to ‘pay it forward’ to those that don’t 💦   75p isn’t much - and most customers are more than happy to pay this small charge – but it really adds up.  To date, Pieminister has raised a whopping £25,069 in this way – enough to provide access to safe, clean water for life for 2,089 people in some of the most water-scarce communities globally 💙 Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eU3h8tX3

  • Make sure you take some time today to listen/watch the latest edition of The Stream Podcast. Will Sarni and Tom Freyberg welcome Dr Peter Gleick, a leading scientist, innovator and communicator on water and climate issues. This has been a pretty epic 'Legends' series of the podcast. Thanks again to The Stream for making Frank Water your series charity partner 💦 #water #podcast #climateissues

The Three Ages of Water (and reasons to stay optimistic) 💡 Will Sarni and I were delighted to welcome Dr Peter Gleick, a leading scientist, innovator and communicator on water and climate issues, for the fifth episode of The Stream podcast 'Legends' series. We speak with him about his latest book 'The Three Ages of Water', which covers Earth and humanity’s intricate relationship with water: 💡 The 'Prehistoric Past' where the cradles of civilisation were drawn to and grew around water 💡 The ‘Imperilled Present’ where we learned to engineer water to our benefit, but also with unexpected consequences 💡 'Hope for the Future' - we have the solutions to hand and with the right decisions, we can solve water. Dr Gleick rightly deserves to be on the Legends series. As well as being a MacArthur Fellow, he’s also an elected member of the US National Academy of Sciences. He founded the Pacific Institute in 1987 to be one of the most innovative, independent non-governmental research centres to advance solutions for the world’s most pressing water challenges. The organisation is also behind the 'Water Conflict Chronology', detailing all major water conflicts. As always, a big thanks to our charity partner Frank Water and long-standing sponsor, Raymond James. Article and related links in the comments 👇 #water #climate #climatechange #innovation #podcast

Following the first successful edition, in collaboration with the CII-Triveni Water Institute, we hosted the second Water Dialogues Series in Mumbai. This platform brought together government, industry, academia, and civil society to drive action on the Water-Climate-Livelihood Nexus, reinforcing the urgent need for corporate engagement and collective action to address water security challenges. Key speakers included: 💧 Dr Sanjay Chahande (Chairperson, Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority), highlighted the state’s proactive water conservation efforts and the importance of scientific, data-driven governance. 💧Ravichandran Purushothaman (Chairman, CII Mission on Water), emphasised the goal of water neutrality in key watersheds by 2030, stressing collaboration across industries, agriculture, and policy, drawing global insights from regions like California. 💧 Katie Alcott MBE (CEO and Founder, Frank Water), who reinforced Frank Water’s commitment to strengthening water security through collective action models in southern India, built on over 20 years of experience. 💧Dr Kapil Narula (Executive Director and CEO, CII Water Institute) called for watershed-level action beyond operational efficiencies and highlighted WATSCAN, a tool that enables data-led water resource management. With water and climate challenges escalating, this dialogue reaffirmed the power of partnerships and shared responsibility in shaping a water-secure future. #FrankWater #WaterSecurity #SustainableSolutions

  • 🌍✨ They did it! Adventurers Adam Wilton MBE, CFA and Gavin Booth have made history by completing the first-ever self-sufficient foot expedition across the Rub' al-Khali, (“the Empty Quarter”) in Saudia Arabia, the largest continuous sand desert in the world.   Covering 780 km in just 22 days, the duo hauled 200kg of water and supplies in self-built rickshaw-style carts across one of the harshest terrains on Earth, all to raise awareness and funds for Frank Water 💦 “There were times when we had doubts, but we pushed through. This journey underscores the critical role of water in survival and the necessity of sustainable water management,” they said. We are so grateful for their dedication and determination. 🙌 You can help make their efforts count by supporting their fundraiser and 100% of donations go directly to our programmes. 📢 Donate today: https://lnkd.in/e_kQjpBv 📖 Read more about their inspiring expedition: https://lnkd.in/ePARgKPi #FrankWaterCharity #TheCrescentCrossing #Adventurers
