Great to see Pacific Fusion making real headway with this funding announcement. Huge congratulations to the team and such positive news for the fusion industry as a whole https://lnkd.in/eUjbciSs
We started Pacific Fusion last summer with a clear mission — to power the world with abundant, affordable, clean energy. We’ve been working quietly, and today, we are excited to share more with you. We are currently designing and building a high-gain pulsed magnetic fusion driver to achieve net facility gain (more fusion energy output than all stored energy input). In parallel, we have started engineering the components and systems needed for affordable commercial fusion systems. Our plans are ambitious. Thanks to our extraordinary team of builders, decades of fusion research and progress, and support from an incredible group of investors, we are confident we can achieve them. Our founding team wrote a letter that sheds light on the convictions that inspired us to begin this journey, our approach to fusion, and the company we are building. You can read that here: https://lnkd.in/dSFk6Rhy.

After a successful few days in Tokyo last week, here are 3 key thoughts I came away with: Japan is a great fit for fusion. The combination of their need for clean, firm energy plus their technological strength is a powerful combination, and the number of people who attended was testament how they see the fusion opportunity and their openness to exploring it. Come for the content; stay for the networking. When we are planning the agendas, we always prioritise strong, informative contents and people come for the info and the discussions on stage. But equally important are the connections we make too. I loved the networking day with visits to JT60SA and Faraday Factory, and a bonus day to Kyoto Fusioneering, not so much for what we saw (though seeing fusion labs is always cool!) but for the deeper discussions we were able to have on the bus and how nice it is just to get to know like-minded people on a more personal level. FusionXInvest is needed. One of the things that came up again and again is how important it is that fusion is financed. Investment is one of the major challenges alongside the scientific and engineering ones. It’s the fundamental challenge that enables the others. I’m proud to be part of FusionX Group in putting together these important events so that between us all we can find the answers and move forward. There was so much optimism in the room at FusionXInvest in Japan and so many parting calls of “See you in California!” The next FusionXInvest will be Feb 12-14th in Silicon Valley in association with Stanford University and I can’t wait to do it all again! Find out more about our California event (and sign up—networking is first-come-first-served!) https://lnkd.in/ezMPhBWt

Fusion energy needs great minds undertaking cutting-edge research. To support an increase in the number of individuals undertaking PhD research, UKAEA’s FOSTER Programme Industry Support Scheme Awards provides a fixed sum towards the cost of a fusion-related PhD in a UK university that commences by 31st December, 2025. Applications for Award support should be led by a company that is passionate about achieving fusion energy, and PhD topics should be beneficial to the wider UK fusion sector, i.e. not only relevant to one specific fusion device. Application forms and further guidance can be obtained by email from fusionskills@ukaea.uk. For more information see the document, below. The FOSTER programme is working with universities, businesses and international partners to increase the number of apprentice and graduate, post-graduate and doctoral, and post-doctoral opportunities within the fusion skills ecosystem in the UK. We recommend that companies or organisations applying for this Scheme should either currently be, or apply to be, a member of the Fusion Cluster, which brings together a community powered by knowledge, passion and expertise to achieve fusion faster.
