This week I arranged a visit for members of the team at GeoAccess to visit and volunteer with the rewilding projects at West Blean and Thorndean Woods managed by Kent Wildlife Trust. I had to take some time do some wildlife spotting and although I couldn't see everything there were some amazing creatures, well worth the visit. #Rewliding #Conservation #Wilderblean #Kentwildlfe #Ecology #Environment #Mammal #Ancientwoodland

Yesterday, we visited West Blean and Thorndean Woods, a nature reserve managed by the Kent Wildlife Trust, to volunteer at their Ranger Office. This space is becoming increasingly used as a place to visit and learn more about the rewilding projects. However, as a charity organisation, they face challenges in maintaining the space due to a lack of volunteers, especially with the rapid growth of vegetation. That’s where we came in, lending a hand to help manage the fast-growing greenery. In the afternoon, we explored the site to observe the ongoing rewilding efforts. While we didn't get the chance to spot the European bison, it was great to see the efforts that go into such a big project. Last weekend we were working under possession in London, carrying vegetation clearance in order to faciliate our earthworks examination.   The Site was just behind Battersea Dogs Home on the BSP1 and BSF Lines that run between the VIR Lines (Kent) and the VTB1 Lines (Sussex) at around the 1 mile area from London Victoria. Many assume a flashy, high-tech approach to VR (Virtual Reality) ensures engagement. But is that really the case? Our User Acceptance Testing (UAT) session revealed simplicity triumphs. With anticipated positive feedback on the Meta Quest 3 headset, we uncovered that a simplistic laptop-based approach works just as well when delivering informative content. Other methods used in this trial, including a cardboard VR headset, raised some room for improvement in the visual aspect. However, the engagement and ease of navigation throughout showed positive results. We can now start to produce future modules for the chosen devices and embed these into our evolving digital academy platform! Yesterday I attended a Beaver ecology & conservation workshop with the Beaver Trust via the Mammal Society at Llangorse activity centre. The Beavers here and at the forest of Dean which I visited earlier in the year are in contained enclosures. However, wild releases are permitted in parts of the UK and Beavers will migrate up to 500km. One of our teams has already found some evidence of them near an infrastructure feature. I would suggest that, as shown in the first image, that their influence on an ecosystem is overwhelmingly positive. However, as their rewilded distribution spreads more and more projects will need to account for their presence.
