Here at GeoAccess we just love how much our Earthwork Examiners live and breath the railway, both home and abroad. These photos were sent in by Tony White FGS CGeol MCIOB CEnv aka "Antonio Blanco" 🤣 who is currently visiting our Alejandro Diaz Iglesias in northern Spain. They have been checking out the local railway in Cuevas with the spectacular backdrop of the Picos De Europa. #railway #assetmanagement #slopestability #geology #geptechnicalengineering #railwayfamily David Frost Mark Coleman Tiffany Frost

Some interesting invertebrate behaviour today, Just off a railway site in Builth Wells a Red admiral butterfly gets too close to a European hornet nest and is politely asked to leave. Compared to the the invasive Asian hornet (Vespa velutina), the European hornet (Vespa crabro) is generally not aggressive and only tends to sting when directly threatened or defending its nest. Their presence is generally a good indicator due to the fact that they require a good insect-prey population to support their young. I would argue their large size and docile nature makes for interesting observation. #Ecology #Environment #Animalbehaviour #Invertebrates #Biodiversity #Assetmanagement GeoAccess

Today we spotted an ecologist in his natural environment Ben Bowen It was really beneficial have the ecologist from GeoAccess come out to site today where the banks of the river Wye meet the CWL rail in mid Wales . We refer to the embankments and cuttings along the Rail as assets, there is no greater assets than our wildlife that calles these places home and they deserve all the respect and care we can give to protect and maintain there habitat.

A recent snap of two members of the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) Morwenna Corry and Robin Jenkins, alongside one of our alternative access teams in Network Rail Southern Route. They both joined us on site for the day, to see how we overcome some of the challenges on the network, which enable us to carry out earthworks examinations. Not a bad weather day, just dodging the rain later in the afternoon! #assetmanagement #ropeaccess #vegetationmanagement #geology #geotechnicalengineering David Frost Mark Coleman Tiffany Frost

Back in October last year, I met up with Mark Coleman, Managing Director, to discuss collaboration with GeoAccess and Rail Safe Friendly. We put the world to rights and spoke about how important it is to educate young people, hell... everyone on #railsafety Most recently, we caught up to see how the project is going and Mark kindly agreed that we could record so I could share with you all... take a look below to see a snippet of our conversation. This week I arranged a visit for members of the team at GeoAccess to visit and volunteer with the rewilding projects at West Blean and Thorndean Woods managed by Kent Wildlife Trust. I had to take some time do some wildlife spotting and although I couldn't see everything there were some amazing creatures, well worth the visit. #Rewliding #Conservation #Wilderblean #Kentwildlfe #Ecology #Environment #Mammal #Ancientwoodland

Yesterday, we visited West Blean and Thorndean Woods, a nature reserve managed by the Kent Wildlife Trust, to volunteer at their Ranger Office. This space is becoming increasingly used as a place to visit and learn more about the rewilding projects. However, as a charity organisation, they face challenges in maintaining the space due to a lack of volunteers, especially with the rapid growth of vegetation. That’s where we came in, lending a hand to help manage the fast-growing greenery. In the afternoon, we explored the site to observe the ongoing rewilding efforts. While we didn't get the chance to spot the European bison, it was great to see the efforts that go into such a big project. Check out some before and after pictures below to see the impact of our efforts in just a few hours! GeoAccess Mark Coleman David Frost Ben Bowen Cathy B.
