After carefully reviewing 55 universities that entered the competition, a winner for our free license has emerged... 👇 One institution stood out; not just for what they aspire to do, but for what they are already doing to transform geoscience education in their country. They are tackling declining student interest, bridging the academia-industry gap, and actively trying new approaches to public outreach. 🇳🇬🏆 Congratulations to the University of Abuja! 🏆 🇳🇬 Their bid stood out for three key reasons: 1️⃣ A Clear Mission to Revitalize Geoscience Education With fewer students choosing Earth sciences in Nigeria, the University of Abuja is redesigning its curriculum, integrating practical skills, and ensuring that geoscience education remains relevant, engaging, and career-focused. 2️⃣ Bridging the Academia-Industry Gap They recognize that graduate employability is a critical challenge and are actively working with industry partners to equip students with real-world communication skills that will help them engage policymakers, communities, and stakeholders. 3️⃣ Innovation in Geoscience Education Under the leadership of Dr. Aminu Abdullahi Isyaku, Head of Department they are the first institution in Nigeria to introduce a geodiversity and geoheritage course. This kind of leadership drive is key to making their Geologize training successful. 💡 With an estimated 160 students and staff set to benefit from this training, this partnership is a major step toward transforming geoscience education and outreach in Nigeria. A HUGE congratulations to Dr. Isyaku and the entire Department of Geology and Mining at the University of Abuja! 🎉 At Geologize, we are thrilled to support this journey and look forward to seeing the incredible impact this training will have. 🚀 Tunbosun Afolayan, SCMP®, Agogo Abraham, Sandra V., Malami Uba Saidu, Janet Adeyemi, David Khoza, Antony Benham #Geologize #GeoscienceEducation #Geocommunication #UniversityOfAbuja #EarthSciences

🎓 I’ve been reading your responses, and this is what I’ve learned... 🌍 The passion, challenges, and ambitions shared have been eye-opening. From universities in major cities to smaller institutions in developing regions, a clear theme has emerged: Geoscience communication is often underfunded, underappreciated, and underserved. But it doesn’t have to be. 🧏 Dozens of your have applied. Based on your responses, I’ve developed success criteria to ensure this opportunity has the greatest impact. ❗ High Need & Urgency Universities struggling with public engagement, lack of resources, or difficulty attracting students will benefit the most. 🎤 Commitment to Outreach I’m prioritizing institutions where faculty, students, or teams are actively trying to make geoscience more accessible but need support to do it effectively. 🌎 Diversity & Global Impact This isn’t just for well-funded universities in major hubs. I’m paying close attention to smaller institutions and underrepresented regions where communication training could be transformational. 📢 Potential for Lasting Change I want to work with a university that won’t just take the training and move on, but instead, integrate geocommunication into its long-term strategy. The responses have already given me incredible insight into where this training can make the biggest difference. There’s still time to apply (until next Friday). 🚀 If your university hasn’t submitted yet, don’t miss this chance. 📌 Nominate your university by filling out the short survey here: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dcJtvn5m 📌 Tag students, professors, or faculty who should see this! 🏆 The winner (and runner-ups) will be announced in one week. This isn’t just about one institution—it’s about changing how geoscience is communicated worldwide. If your university could benefit, this is your moment. At yesterday’s National Outreach Committee meeting at #SME, we explored a question that is often asked but rarely answered: Why does our messaging often fall flat? 👇 The usual outreach playbook isn’t working. "Everything you use comes from mining." "Without us, there’s no energy transition." These statements are true, but they don’t change minds. As Rohitesh Dhawan puts it, we respond with rational arguments to an emotional debate. 💡 In my presentation, I showed how neuroscience can illuminate the discussion. 🧠 Basal ganglia: The brain filters out predictable, expected messages. 🧠 Anterior Cingulate Cortex: Detects conflicting or suspicious information, triggering distrust before a conversation even begins. 🧠 HPA Axis: When people feel pressured to agree, stress hormones rise, and dialogue shuts down. 🧠 Insula: Power asymmetry triggers feelings of unfairness and moral outrage. The response isn’t curiosity. It’s scepticism and defensiveness. 🧠 Whole-brain: Direct messaging alone rarely shifts perception or behavior. So, what does this mean when we talk about mining? It means saying the unexpected rather than repeating industry mantras. It means embracing concerns instead of dismissing them. It means inviting ‘no’ rather than chasing ‘yes’ and delivering evidence against interest so we are seen as allies rather than adversaries. Most importantly, working with the brain means designing multiple entry points to amplify neurological signaling - enhancing attention, sparking emotion, and increasing engagement. If mining is to have a future where it is trusted, we need to stop talking 𝘢𝘵 people and start 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮. Thank you, everyone, for coming and engaging so enthusiastically! Michelle M. Trust is the most valuable currency in mining today and is in short supply. An environmental voice with the power to sway millions of ESG and impact investors stood outside the room. She wasn’t just ignored—she was mocked and dismissed. But what if her endorsement could legitimize responsible mining in ways no framework or certification ever could? ⏳ The mining industry can’t afford to overlook voices like hers any longer. 👉 Read our latest blog on the critical intersection of mining finance, ESG, and building trust for the future. #Mining #ESG #Sustainability #EnergyTransition #ImpactInvesting #SocialLicense #FutureOfMining #MiningFinance #Geologize

👩 She holds the key to mining’s future. But she was ignored, mocked, and left standing alone in the cold. ❄️ ✊ Her voice could sway millions. But instead of listening, we turned our backs - and now she's gone... ⏳ Can we find her before it’s too late? 👉 Read the blog that’s making the mining industry question everything. 💛 Rohitesh Dhawan, Dominic Barton, Robin Stickley Rob Karpati, Peggy Bell, Lindsey Schultz, Carly Leonida, Lucy Donald, Brooke Bibeault, John Spring, Corinne Smit, Aymone Schendel, Lucy Crane, Kelly Ward, Cara R., Ben Lepley, Previn Pillay, Andy Reynolds, Emily King, Jessica Scanlan, Iain Stewart, Mckinsey Miller Lyon, Kenna O'Neill #Mining #ESG #Sustainability #EnergyTransition #ImpactInvesting #SocialLicense #FutureOfMining #MiningRevolution

🙏 I want to thank the women in mining who inspired me to write this and those who have reviewed it. This subject is close to my heart. Let's challenge society's prevailing attitudes toward male mental health. 💜 We'll save lives and create better working environments for all, especially women. It's not wishy-washy stuff. For mining leaders, every day can feel like walking a communications tightrope. They’ve got to stay connected with investors, communities, Indigenous leaders, business partners, employees, government officials—you name it. Everyone has their own priorities. And let’s face it, not everyone is coming from a place of trust. The challenge is being consistent in your message and delivering it the right way to to the right people, regardless of their perspective. This year PRA Communications is doubling down on our award-winning efforts to transform how miners communicate with the world. As part of that, we’re proud to support Geologize LTD, an organization focused on helping geoscience professionals demonstrate their impact and connect to society. We're working with Geologize to offer *free training* offer to the 27,000+ delegates expected at this year's Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference. More details to come. Interested in leaning more in the meantime? Get in touch to see how PRA and Geologize can help you and your team better manage your public reputation, revamp your presentations and public engagements, refresh your online presence, and much more #SocialLicense #PDAC2025 #Communication #Training #Mining https://lnkd.in/gmiCq3uU
