Happy 10-year anniversary, Girlguiding and People's Postcode Lottery 🎈 To celebrate 10 years of support for Girlguiding, thanks to funding raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, Rainbows in Scotland helped us throw a very special party! Girlguiding staff and representatives from People’s Postcode Lottery joined 1st Kirkliston Rainbows to say a big thank you to Postcode Lottery players. We also had a very special guest in Less Waste Laura, award-winning climate activist, environmental scientist and Scottish Influencer of the Year. Laura helped the girls make environmentally friendly thank you cards for People’s Postcode Lottery as they worked towards their Be Well badges 💙 Image description 9 photos of Rainbows enjoying a party - they do arts and crafts, run under a parachute, pose with '10' number balloons and hold a giant 'thank you PPL' badge.

Girlguiding offers lots of opportunities to experience international adventure, and we want to make sure these can be accessed at home as well as abroad. This summer, in a pilot for our Guiding Overseas Linked with Development (GOLD) programme, 6 Girlguiding UK leaders welcomed 11 Greek Guiding Leaders to the UK. Over 3 weeks the UK and Greek teams ran a series of trainings around leadership and offered unique cultural exchange opportunities to members across the UK. Hear from the team about this exciting project: https://bit.ly/40fsxaL

Last week, Girlguiding's External Affairs team and our brilliant advocates Charlotte, Eloise and Lucy attended the UN Women UK Awards. We were shortlisted from hundreds of nominations for the ‘Outstanding Contributor to Gender Equality’ award 🌟 The team were recognised for their work on our manifesto ‘For All Girls’ and for amplifying the voices of all girls with decision-makers. The advocate panel, now in its 15th year, continues to speak out on issues affecting girls within and beyond Girlguiding including safety, mental health and the cost of living. As always, the advocates made friends with influential people - including Andrea Thompson, Editor in Chief of Marie Claire, and activist Sharon Gaffka. We didn’t win, but we’d like to congratulate Rashid Begum, an inspiring campaigner against ‘honour’ based violence and forced marriage, as well as fellow nominees Standing Together Against Domestic Abuse and Immy Harper. What an amazing evening!

Last week we celebrated International Day of the Girl with a special event hosted by our partner, Google. We heard from Girlguiding's CEO Angela Salt and our Chair of the Board of Trustees Denise Wilson, then handed over to our amazing advocates Grace, Staci, Megan, Hilary, Katie and Millie, who led an all-girl panel exploring the findings from our Girls' Attitudes Survey. It was a fantastic, thought-provoking evening discussing what it's like to be a girl in 2024 and how Girlguiding helps all girls know they can do anything. Thank you to everyone who came along to support!

Happy International Day of the Girl! 🌟 This year we want to celebrate all the amazing things girls are capable of. We know girls can do anything, but that's not always represented in everyday life. To prove our point, we asked artificial intelligence to show us images of people who have mastered a skill - fixing a bike, building a campfire, playing football and taking the lead. In every situation, AI generated an image of men performing these skills 😒 But we know better than that, so we asked Brownies and Guides to recreate the images and show that gender stereotypes won't stop us! This video launches our new brand campaign, where we'll share our mission to let all girls know they can do anything on billboards across the UK. Keep an eye out for them! AI might not always show girls what they're capable of in this world... but Girlguiding does 💙 Video description Words are typed into a search bar: 'someone playing football', followed by an image of a man playing football. 'Someone being a leader', followed by an image of a man presenting during a meeting. 'Someone building a campfire', followed by an image of a man making a fire. Text appears on screen: 'AI doesn't always show girls what they're capable of... but we do' with the Girlguiding logo beneath. Videos of girls playing football, fixing a bike, building a campfire and leading a discussion follow. The video ends with the Girlguiding logo.

When Girlguiding visits Parliament 😛✌️ We spent the day chatting to decision makers about our Girls' Attitudes Survey and the issues girls face in their everyday lives, as well as handing out our International Day of the Girl and Black History Month badges. It was amazing to speak to so many MPs and tell them what we're all about - thank you to everyone who stopped by. And of course, the biggest well done to 22nd Walthamstow Brownies (and their leaders) and our advocates Millie and Hilary. You did an amazing job representing Girlguiding!

❗️ This World Mental Health Day, we're highlighting how the cost of living crisis is affecting girls' mental health. According to our Girls' Attitudes Survey, 1 in 3 girls and young women say the cost of living crisis has negatively affected their mental health and wellbeing, as well as their opportunities for development. Living through this time has also affected their outlook for the future, with more girls worrying about their future financial security. Girlguiding young member Fatimah talks about how this makes her feel, and reminds us that all girls should have access to opportunities and support to ensure they can reach their full potential. Through initiatives like our cost of living grants and campaign to end period poverty, we're working to ensure all girls know they can do anything 💙 Video description Young member Fatimah speaks to the camera, followed by an animation of a statistic from our Girls' Attitudes Survey: '1 in 3 girls and young women say the cost of living crisis has negatively affected their mental health and wellbeing'. Fatimah speaks again, and the video ends on an animation of girls around the title 'Girls' Attitudes Survey 2024'.

❗️Girls are overloaded with pressures about how they should look, affecting their confidence and wellbeing Our Girls' Attitudes Survey - enabled thanks to funding raised by players of People's Postcode Lottery - asks over 2,500 girls aged 7-21 about the challenges they face today. This year, they told us they’re consumed by negative thoughts about how they look and this has a big impact on their self-confidence. Girls feel under pressure to alter their appearance both online and in real life, and increasing numbers tell us they want to lose weight and have been on a diet. Advocates Charlotte and Millie talk about these worrying statistics and how being part of Girlguiding can help boost girls' confidence, giving them a safe space away from appearance pressures. #PostcodeLotteryPeople Video description Girlguiding advocate Millie speaks to camera, followed by an animation of a statistic from our Girls' Attitudes Survey: '60% of girls aged 11-16 tell us they've received negative comments from other people about their appearance'. Advocate Charlotte then speaks to camera, before passing back to Millie for the rest of the video. The video ends on an animation of girls around the title 'Girls' Attitudes Survey 2024'.
