📢 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧! 👷♀️🌍 We’re thrilled to have recently collaborated with Girls Under Construction, whose mission is to bridge the gap between young women and the construction industry, making it more understandable and accessible. We attended an Insight Day they hosted at UCL, where 40 young women gathered to explore opportunities in construction as part of the ‘𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒4𝐇𝐄𝐑’ initiative. The day was all about encouraging students from diverse backgrounds to expand their career horizons, challenge stereotypes, and explore STEM careers. We had the pleasure of joining the Career Panel, alongside other female industry leaders in sustainability and architecture, to discuss our career journeys, roles in the industry, and share insights about the construction field. The event also included hands-on activities and educational sessions that offered attendees a comprehensive look at career pathways in the built environment. We’d like to thank Girls Under Construction for inviting us and for their dedication to shaping a more inclusive industry. We evidently saw the girls grow in confidence to pursue their career area interest within our industry.📈 Thank you to our amazing Role Models from Zaha Hadid Architects , Berkeley Group Plc and Higgins Partnerships ! As a GUC Ambassador, I was invited to the Corporate and Professionals Event last weekend to share Girls Under Construction industry aims and encourage the next cohort of young women to explore the construction industry. With GUC being a hub of information on a variety of career paths within the wider construction industry, it was fantastic being able to tell more people about all that GUC has to offer in career support and guidance. Additionally, the variety of guest speakers who shared their words of wisdom was incredibly inspiring including Jack Kaye who imparted three key pieces of advice: 1. Believe in yourself 2. Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you 3. Learn from the lessons of failure Thank you again to Barbara Akinkunmi GUC, and to all of the inspiring guest speakers at the forum! Hi Network👋🏽, I had the wonderful opportunity of being involved in a Corporate & Proffesionals Event with my Girls Under Construction Under Construction team as my first GUC Project, in which I have to thank Barbara Akinkunmi Akinkunmi for giving me the opportunity as a new team member! It was an amazing experience, where I got to meet like minded students, network with professionals across different industries and explain the construction industry + its careers in a relatable way! I also discussed my personal career aspirations and my journey so far as an A-level student. My highlight was being able to enlighten a young student interested in architecture on how she can navigate her journey and also giving the visitors a chance to guess the names of building resources on our stand (which would seem easy but was quite difficult! 😂). I really enjoyed meeting everyone and experiencing my first event with Girls Under Construction Under Construction.
