Last week, we opened the doors to 15 of our long term regeneration sites, giving local students, career changers, and educators behind-the-scenes tours. As part of Build UK's Open Doors Week, visitors explored these fascinating projects, met our teams, and discovered the fantastic variety of rewarding careers that the built environment has to offer. Highlights included: - Girls Under Construction witnessed firsthand how a development transforms from skeletal structures to fully finished homes at King’s Road Park - London South Bank University students explored the UK’s largest cluster of listed gasholders at Bromley-by-Bow, gaining insight into their history and redevelopment - Carpentry students from Guildford College visited our North Street site to experience life on a live construction project - T-Level Construction students from City of Westminster College visited Trillium, getting an exciting look at a project in its early stages - Plumbing students from South Bank Colleges stepped inside the iconic gasholder at Oval Village This year’s Open Doors week coincided with the Government announcing a new £600 million investment in skills training as part of their drive to build 1.5 million new homes. This is fantastic news that help businesses like Berkeley train the next generation of built environment professionals. Our 2025 Apprenticeship Programme is open for applications until this Friday. We’re delighted to share that our St William team has now secured full planning consent for the revival of Bromley-by-Bow Gasworks after finalising the Section 106 legal agreement with the London Borough of Newham. This 23-acre East London site includes a unique collection of seven Grade II Listed gasholders, making it one of the most challenging and fascinating brownfield regeneration projects in the capital. St William has worked closely with council, Greater London Authority , Historic England, RSHP, Gillespies and local residents to design a masterplan that restores these incredible heritage assets and unlocks the site’s potential as a green and sustainable East London neighbourhood. The approved project will deliver 2,150 new homes and open the site to the public for the first time in 150 years. 70% of the former gasworks will become open space, including a beautiful new 4.2-acre park fronting onto the River Lea and a wider network of biodiverse habitats for people and wildlife to enjoy. Around £72 million will be invested in the restoration of the seven gasholders, which will define this unique neighbourhood and be carefully preserved for the next generation. The project also includes around 30,000 square feet of new commercial space, a £4.4 million contribution towards local skills and employment programmes and a further £4.7 million towards sustainable transport initiatives, including cycling and pedestrian routes and upgrades to bus services and infrastructure. Thank you to the many people and partners who have helped to unlock this complex site. Dean Summers Simon Lewis Rebecca Ford MRICS

Happy International Women’s Day! Last week, over 250 women and allies kicked off celebrations, with an inspiring event reflecting on the challenges and opportunities for women in the built environment. A thought-provoking panel discussion and live Q&A gave us the chance to hear from incredible women across the business as they shared their journeys, insights, and ambitions. We also explored the progress we’ve made in gender diversity over the past year, and the steps we still need to take. A big thank you to everyone who joined, shared their stories, and helped spark meaningful conversations about how we can all accelerate change. And a special shoutout to our Women’s Networks for making it all happen! #IWD2025 #InternationalWomensDay #AccelerateAction #Allyship #GenderDiversity Lorraine Fursland Richard Stearn Piers Clanford Elkie Russell Caoimhe O'Flaherty Catarina Rua Preeya Patel Rameesha Aamna Dean Summers

We are hugely proud to announce that our 88-acre regeneration project, The Green Quarter, has won the Community Investment Award at this year’s West London Business Awards. Led by St George, the development will include a mix of homes, community amenities, 13 acres of beautiful parks, meadows and wetlands, designed in partnership with London Wildlife Trust. Winning this accolade has taken commitment, dedication and over ten years of hard work. The judges highlighted the ongoing deep engagement that helps to “ensure that The Green Quarter team are focusing on areas that matter.” As well as delivering a highly complex brownfield regeneration project, St George established a £25,000 ‘Community Chest’ of grant funding as part of the Community Plan. The judging panel praised the significant community benefit delivered by this grant programme alongside educational engagement with local schools, youth groups, and charities like Groundwork London. Deirdre Costigan MP for Ealing Southall and the Leader of Hounslow Council, Shantanu Rajawat, attended the awards ceremony alongside leaders from Hayes Town Partnership and Open Southall. The Green Quarter took the prize ahead of more than 50 other organisations and developments in the Community Investment category and made the shortlist for the Socially Responsible Corporate of the Year. Congratulations to the team on their success! #HousingDelivery #NewHomes #SustainableCommunities #Communityinvestment #brownfieldregeneration #socialvalue

Berkeley Group Plc reposted this
It was a pleasure to join Andrew Tuck to record a feature for The Urbanist Podcast. My interview centres on London’s gasholders, their history, their potential and how Berkeley Group Plc is repurposing them for new homes and community assets. Our conversation was broad ranging, from the complexities of working through the refurbishment process to the importance of retaining these structures to celebrate London’s industrial heritage. We also talked about how King’s Road Park and Bromley by Bow are set to be transformed into vibrant new places, reconnecting these extensive former gasworks into the surrounding urban fabric. Early phases of King’s Road Park are already on site, and after working on Bromley by Bow for almost 4 years, I’m hoping we will be completing the S106 agreement very soon! Thanks again to Monocle for the opportunity. https://lnkd.in/eHV7k4gP

We were honoured to welcome the Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, to our Eastbrook development today to explore this major urban extension being delivered in partnership with Milton Keynes City Council and Homes England. This hugely ambitious project, led by our St Joseph business, is a brilliant example of all levels of Government working together with the development sector to unlock complex sites and deliver the crucial social and transport infrastructure needed to support thousands of new homes. It embodies everything the Government has been doing to drive growth and create sustainable neighbourhoods fit for the future. The Prime Minister was met by Rob Perrins, Piers Clanford, Elkie Russell, Laura Gallagher and Stephen Kirwan and spent time talking to 15 of our up-and-coming apprentices. Eastbrook is on course to deliver more than 4,600 low-carbon private and affordable homes, alongside a new strategic road network, three primary schools, a secondary school, shops, restaurants, essential services, healthcare facilities, office space, and community hubs. The masterplan also includes over 250 acres of public open space, including a magnificent 150-acre country park, and more than 4 million square feet of new commercial space. A huge thank you to everyone involved in this fantastic project, particularly Peter Marland, Leader of Milton Keynes and Chris Curtis MP for Milton Keynes North. #NewTowns #HousingDelivery #NewHomes #SustainableCommunities

We were incredibly proud to launch our latest report, Brownfield Planning Passports: The Fast Track to Growth, at the Houses of Parliament earlier this week alongside industry leaders. Featuring a range of analysis and comment the report explores approaches that can accelerate the delivery of homes in sustainable locations and boost economic growth. Long-term regeneration sites are hugely complex, but they offer the greatest potential for positive change and the creation of new opportunities – that’s why they are our primary focus. The launch event featured an engaging discussion on the key challenges and opportunities in this space. Panellists included Berkeley Group Plc COO, Piers Clanford, alongside Uma Kumaran MP, Christopher Worrall, Labour Housing Group, Louise Brett Leader of Ealing Council (London Borough of Ealing), Caroline Harper, Be First Regeneration Limited, Simon Ricketts from Town Legal LLP, and Russell Curtis, Director at RCKa. The panel highlighted the Government’s positive steps toward increasing housing supply and emphasized the need for further action to unlock investment and streamline development. Transformation of underutilized brownfield sites is possible. In the words of Andrew White, Head of Public Affairs at Berkeley Group Plc, boldness will be required to turbocharge the delivery of new homes and neighbourhoods. Marking the beginning of National Apprenticeship Week, we were proud to host Bridget Phillipson, Secretary of State for Education, at Oval Village yesterday. The visit highlighted the crucial role apprenticeships play in building careers and supporting the built environment sector. During her visit, the Secretary of State met apprentices from Lee Marley Group, a specialist brickwork and scaffolding contractor and the Oval Village project apprentices from Berkeley. Following a live bricklaying demonstration, she met with apprentices to hear about their experiences and future aspirations within the industry. As National Apprenticeship Week gets underway it was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the work being done by the Lee Marley apprentices at Oval Village, a development which will create 1,360 homes and use over 3.5 million bricks. Oval Village, has already supported 37 local apprenticeships for London Borough of Lambeth and created nearly 200 local jobs, strengthening both skills and opportunities in the community. Across Berkeley Group, we are proud to play our role in supporting the future of the sector. Over 9% of our total workforce are in ‘earn and learn’ roles - this includes over 150 apprentices, 50 graduates, and 55 sponsored students, all directly appointed by Berkeley Group. Our teams also actively engage with schools, colleges, and universities, hosting around 200 careers events in the last year alone. Applications for our apprenticeship programme opened on 10 February to align with #NAW2025 and will remain open until 28 March. #SkillsForLife #ShapeTheFuture #Apprenticeships #BrownfieldRegeneration #StrengtheningCommunities #Education
