  • RedCap and eRedCap will play an increasingly critical role in the landscape of 5G IoT. These two technologies open the door to all services handled to-date via 4G, so that they can profit from the advances of 5G technology, while delivering scalability, cost-effectiveness and improved power-efficiency. In this way, RedCap and eRedCap are set to accelerate future growth and diversification of #5G SA IoT applications across various industries. This white paper from GSMA examines: * Technical aspects of #RedCap and #eRedCap, including how the 5G device transceiver was simplified to lower the cost of ownership and how both technologies are optimised to support the necessary data throughputs for medium bitrate services. * Network coverage considerations, as well as the features and configurations manufacturers may choose to leverage to create more resilient RedCap and eRedCap devices. * Energy-saving enhancements that contribute to extended battery lives for a new generation of advanced 5G products, for instance, wearables. * Expanding ecosystem of component manufacturers and mobile network operators that are driving the adoption of RedCap and eRedCap solutions and connectivity in the #IoT market. • What spectrum bands are being auctioned when, where, and for which technology? Find out in our latest Spectrum Auction Calendar on the status of spectrum auctions and assignments around the world. The report has been updated since July 2024 to reflect activities related to the release of spectrum. GSA has a large Spectrum Group that is active in all regions and is aligned along International Telecommunication Union lines; it is authoring reports about different spectrum areas from low- and mid-band to high-band frequencies. The auction calendar includes all forthcoming mobile spectrum auctions and assignments known to GSA. Auctions and assignments are only included when a definite decision to assign the spectrum has been announced. Spectrum under consideration or consultation for assignment is not included. Auctions and assignments are removed from the calendar if GSA finds evidence that the assignment process has been completed. Ongoing processes with no formal end date — for example, the administrative award of licences available on simple application — are included in advance of the opening of applications, but are removed once the process has been opened. A list of recently completed auctions and assignments is also provided for reference. • There are 26 operators in 18 countries that are currently investing in #5G #RedCap technology. Who are they? This GSA Hot Topic report, introduced in 2024, explores 5G RedCap. This technology aims to bridge the gap between the cost and power requirements of various 5G uses, particularly addressing shortcomings in connected devices such as wearables, security and surveillance equipment and industrial sensors. Read the report here: https://bit.ly/41YoYGc The report delves into what 5G RedCap entails and its advantages for operators. Additionally, it provides insights about the global status of LTE-M, #5Gstandalone access and 5G RedCap, examining investments by operators and equipment vendors. This March 2025 update introduces enhanced RedCap (#eRedCap), its benefits, potential in this nascent area of 5G and how GSA envisions it shaping this ecosystem. Key findings in this update include: There are 26 operators in 18 countries that are currently investing in 5G RedCap technology. Among the operators investing in the technology, six have launched commercial services. These operators are stc Kuwait, DITO Telecommunity Corporation in the Philippines, T-Mobile in the United States and the three major Chinese operators: China Unicom, China Telecom Global and China Mobile International Limited. The majority of current investments are in the form of tests and trials, with 17 operators in as many countries evaluating, testing or trialling 5G RedCap technology. GSA identified four chipsets and 17 devices with 5G RedCap capabilities. Download the full report here: https://bit.ly/41YoYGc

  • #MWC25 day 1 GSA was delighted to support Fibocom at the launch of their AI-enhanced FWA solution. Joe Barrett , President of GSA commented: “There can be little doubt that 5G FWA has hit the mainstream. GSA is now tracking over 344 operators that have announced 5G launches or soft launches, of which 169 are marketing residential or business 5G FWA broadband services. That’s an increase of more than 300% in the last three years. This operator momentum is driving not only growth in vendor shipments of 5G-enabled CPE devices, but we also see operators and vendors continue to work hand-in-hand on innovations such as 5G standalone, 5G RedCap, millimeter-wave and flexible self-install outdoor CPEs. Underpinning much of this is adoption across both the network and devices of AI technologies, and we’re delighted to see GSA Associates such as Fibocom lead the way in supporting the continued growth of 5G fixed wireless access services globally.” Fibocom is a GSA Associate and member of the GSA 4G-5G FWA Forum . #5G #fwa #fixedwirelessaccess #AI

  • Along with many of you, the GSA team is heading to Barcelona for MWC Barcelona next week. We are really looking forward to meeting with the industry and networking with GSA members and associates on the show floor as well as hosting an in-person meeting of the GSA 4G-5G FWA Forum. Please do get in touch if you would like to meet. February saw the release of the GSA Research Team’s #PrivateMobileNetworks report tracking customer deployments around the world and covering the role of key players including equipment vendors and telecom operators. Joining the GSA as a member will give you access to granular detail about the deployment and piloting of private networks. Also, in February we kicked off our 2025 webinar programme with our Snapshot online event focused on #5GStandalone which saw the GSA Research team take a deeper dive into the recently published 5G SA report. Links to download the full report, and to access the webinar in case you missed it, are below. We have also collated questions from the audience that came up during the session and provided more detailed responses below Finally, with #5G and #NTN very much on the agenda for MWC this year we are publishing a member whitepaper from network infrastructure provider Mavenir which is a useful primer on the topic, covering areas such as cost-efficiency in underserved areas and advancements in 3GPP standards for seamless satellite integration. Scroll down to the Members' Research section to download this timely report - plus a link to our next webinar, which will be on NTN as well! Looking forward to seeing many of you at the Fira!

  • 5G standalone offers operators monetization opportunities beyond what's possible with 5G non-standalone. That was one of the key takeaways from today's Snapshot webinar on #5GStandalone, the operators deploying it, and the device ecosystem supporting it. Presented by GSA President Joe Barrett, along with Jordan Cox and Joe Gardiner from the GSA Research team, key points discussed included: * How the slow initial adoption seems to have passed and momentum looks to be shifting, with 154 operators in 63 countries now investing in 5G SA #networks * 5G SA for #PrivateMobileNetworks is also increasing. Of the 1,600+ organisations identified by GSA as deploying commercial private mobile networks, 46% are using #5G networks ... and at least 85 of those are known to be using 5G Standalone * As of January 2025, the GSA is aware of at least 2,245 announced #devices with support for 5G Standalone. Of those devices 2,014 are already commercially available * While Phones make up over 63% (1,240) of commercial 5G SA devices, there are over 167 commercial #FixedWirelessAccess CPEs and 175 Modules supporting 5G SA 📺 Watch the highlights below to see the main headlines, or watch the full on-demand replay including Q&A (all our Snapshot webinars are 30 minutes, so it's fast-paced!). https://lnkd.in/efQXHNuV 👀 If you want to dig into the data, why not read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eQ8uUCsC 👏 GSA Members and Associates can also access the Exclusive member report which includes a full annex on Operators investing in public 5G SA networks, as well as dive into the GAMBoD database for the latest global data on 5G SA devices, chipsets and more.
