Our latest House of Lords debate notes are now available 🗒️ GoodCorporation is pleased to share the summary notes from our recent House of Lords debate, where business leaders were invited to explore the role of the board in managing #ESG. With recent controversies surrounding the acronym, participants discussed how companies should approach and respond to these challenges. The debate touched on a range of important issues, including what ESG represents for businesses, how progress in these areas can be effectively measured, and the risks and challenges that boards face in addressing ESG. Special thanks to our speaker Baroness Denise Kingsmill for leading the discussion, and to all of our attendees for their valuable insights. Click below to read the full summary. #GCHoLdebates

We're pleased to see the OECD’s launch of the Handbook on Due Diligence for Enabling Living Incomes and Living Wages in Agriculture, Garment, and Footwear Supply Chains 🌍 These sectors, employing millions worldwide, are critical to livelihoods yet often include some of the most vulnerable workers, particularly women and agricultural workers. As our team member, Guillemette Guicherd, highlighted, the handbook provides valuable insights into how businesses can support fairer wages by offering practical guidance on: • Defining and estimating living wages and incomes to meet workers' basic needs. • Evaluating purchasing practices and their impact on livelihoods. The OECD - OCDE’s approach acknowledges that while corporate due diligence is essential, the broader challenge of creating ethical and resilient supply chains requires collective, cross-industry action. #BusinessEthics #HumanRights #LivingWages #SupplyChains #OECD #Sustainability

It’s great to see the launch of the #OECD Handbook on Due Diligence for Enabling Living Incomes and Living Wages in Agriculture, Garment, and Footwear Supply Chains. Global supply chains are deeply intertwined with the livelihoods of millions, playing a critical role in either maintaining or lifting people out of poverty. This handbook focuses on sectors that employ some of the world’s most vulnerable workers, such as women in the garment industry and agricultural workers. Among other things, the handbook provides practical guidance on how to: - Estimate living wages and incomes: it clarifies what is needed to meet basic needs in vulnerable supply chains. - Examine purchasing practices: it helps businesses understand the ripple effects of their decisions on workers’ livelihoods. While corporate due diligence on living income is an important aspect, it’s just one piece of a much broader and more complex issue. The handbook emphasises the necessity of collaborative efforts across industries to move toward fairer wages and improved conditions for workers globally, ultimately fostering more ethical and resilient supply chains. This handbook will undoubtedly be a useful resource for everyone working to address these challenges! https://lnkd.in/eksFv9vh

It was a pleasure to attend the BIICL (British Institute of International and Comparative Law) annual Human Rights Due Diligence Conference last week and engage in discussions around tort litigation as a tool for corporate accountability and a driver for businesses to conduct human rights due diligence. #2024HRDDForum The conversations continuously highlighted the climate change-human rights nexus, stressing that the urgency of transition can only be addressed by stepping back, conducting thorough due diligence, and building trust with stakeholders across the supply chain before undertaking any significant business activities. These perspectives align with GoodCorporation's approach to human rights due diligence—helping businesses embed responsible practices and ensure accountability throughout their operations.

World Mental Health Day 2024: Mental health in the workplace 🌍 💭 Workplaces play a critical role in supporting mental wellbeing. According to the Mental Health Foundation, in the UK, 15% of workers are estimated to have a pre-existing mental health condition, and 875,000 individuals were affected by work-related stress, depression, or anxiety in 2022/23. Moreover, mental health was the 5th most common reason for sickness absence, highlighting that poor mental health and wellbeing in the workplace not only has impacts individuals, but businesses themselves. At GoodCorporation, supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our team is central to how we operate. From a weekly wellbeing poll and encouraging walking meetings to a buddy system for new joiners, small, meaningful changes can make a significant difference in creating a healthier workplace. Our mental health first aiders at GoodCorporation, Judith Kennedy and Naqib Rahman, highlight the importance of fostering an open culture where wellbeing is central and supported by initiatives from our wellbeing committee. They remind us that meaningful conversations around mental health and regularly checking in with colleagues can make a real difference, as sometimes, simply listening is the most valuable support we can offer. #worldmentalhealthday #workplacementalhealth #mentalhealth #wellbeing

Understanding the CSRD: Requirements, scope, timeline 🌱 The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (#CSRD) is set to reshape how businesses approach ESG reporting. Covering almost four times the number of organisations as its predecessor, the Non-Financial Reporting Directive (#NFRD), the CSRD introduces stricter requirements for transparency, accountability, and comparability, affecting every level of a company’s structure - from top management to daily operations. The CSRD’s phased implementation begins this year, with detailed guidelines on #ESG risk assessments, double materiality, and mandatory sustainability assurance. Businesses in scope will need to rethink their reporting practices, aligning them with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (#ESRS) to meet the new regulations. GoodCorporation's latest blog dives into the key elements of the legislation, including the timeline, requirements, and how companies can best prepare for the transition. Whether you’re an SME or a large multinational, understanding these new obligations is critical to maintaining compliance and driving sustainable growth. To find out everything you need to know about the CSRD and what it could mean for your business, click the link below: #sustainability #environment
