I had a great time speaking at the TechExeter Conference 2024 last week! I presented my work on the Good With Readiness Score, walking through our whole development process in more detail than we’ve ever shared before. It seemed to go down well, and I had fun fielding some thoughtful questions from a receptive audience. The rest of the conference didn’t disappoint either; the talks, the people, and the atmosphere (+ the food!) was excellent throughout. I’d recommend anyone in the tech/data space should keep an eye out for future events. I’m speaking at TechExeter 2024! I’ll be presenting my work on the Good With Readiness Score: our new, scientifically-informed indicator of financial health. I’ll talk in depth about the score, the behavioural data science approach we developed it with, and the tech we’re using to deliver it at scale. TechExeter is a multi-disciplinary, grassroots conference with an inclusive community ethos. And thank you for allowing me to address the fact that modern businesses do not need to sacrifice commercial success to deliver on the triple bottom line (people, planet, and profit). 🔮As an experienced researcher and trend-scout for international brands, I know that Good With is what tomorrow looks like (says the 50+ year old female fintech founder! hahaha). Platforming might have a negative connotation these days, but I, along with other founders who are wading through the trenches (the 2% investment challenge), know how beneficial it is to get ‘platformed’ by the likes of @Google. 🌏My ask at the conference is also a wake-up call for all investors everywhere: invest in the future. Invest in the 50%. Ignore at your peril. We often hear from learners that it can be overwhelming to know where to start when it comes to learning about personal finance. A strong theme in our research is that they want to learn, but engagement is a significant barrier to success. Financial education has proven to not only relieve financial anxiety and improve confidence in money management, but has also shown to improve financial capability. But simply learning about abstract financial concepts is not enough to deliver sustained changes in financial behaviours and beliefs. That’s why we’ve been working to make sure our financial psychoeducation framework (FinIQ™) does more than just teach. Our new, gamified pathways will help learners apply what they know and shift their mindset around money. Grounded in behavioural science, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and learning science research, we’re designing financial pathways that break through common barriers to learning and engagement, promoting lasting changes in financial habits. It’s an exciting project that’s part of Innovate UK's Mindset Extended Reality for Digital Mental Health Programme, and we’re looking forward to sharing more as it develops! It’s #WorldMentalHealthDay 🌍 but mental health isn’t limited to just one day: Research shows a harmful cycle, in which poor financial capability often leads to poor mental health, and vice versa. In fact, 24% of people with anxiety or depression face problem debt. This cycle is even more pronounced in underserved communities and credit invisibles who are unable to access fair finance. But interestingly, studies show that when money advice is combined with the right therapies, recovery rates for those with anxiety and debt jump from 41% to 53%. At Good With, our financial psychoeducational framework (FinIQ™) has proven to significantly reduce financial anxiety and improve both financial confidence and wellbeing for those without substantial credit history. Our approach to building financial capability is grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and is a crucial component to our safe ‘Journey To Yes’ solution that enables lenders to better provide the right product at the right time.   Because in combining financial health and mental health solutions, we can build capability, resilience, and affordability for lasting, meaningful change. #FinancialWellbeing #MentalHealth #MoneyAndMentalHealth #Tech4Good

We’re very proud to have been a part of the Cornwall Angel Network launch event yesterday, where Co-Founder & CSO Dr Ellie Kallis Ph.D had the opportunity to pitch our Readiness Score™ and FinIQ™ solutions that are enabling access to fairer finance for credit-thin profilers. With around 14 million people in the UK impacted by the poverty premium, its effects are felt deeply in areas like Cornwall. Our approach, which combines psychological readiness for borrowing with tailored financial psychoeducation, combats the chronic under-serving of credit-thin consumers and low-income households who too often end up paying more despite not necessarily being high-risk.
