Last week for careers week, we were thrilled to be invited to attend a careers fair at a college where we are currently carrying out refurbishment works. The college offers a range of construction courses, and it was a great opportunity for us to engage with the next generation of professionals in the industry. As it coincided with Women in Construction Week, our focus was raising awareness among young women about the diverse opportunities the construction industry has to offer, while actively working to break down stereotypes. We want to show them that the industry is not only accessible but also full of exciting career paths where they can thrive and make a real impact. At GPF Lewis, we're dedicated to shaping the future of construction by developing talent, addressing skill shortages, and offering meaningful career opportunities. We look forward to providing some of the students we meet with valuable work experience, helping to guide their future careers and assist them in making informed decisions about their career paths. #construction #careerdevelopment #WiC

🩷 Women in Construction 🩷 Today, we honor the women at GPF Lewis. They hold a wide range of roles across the business, contributing their talents and expertise in various areas. We believe gender diversity promotes equality and breaks down outdated stereotypes and addressing the growing demand for skilled labour in the construction industry. Construction has long been seen as a male-dominated field, and encouraging women to pursue careers in this sector helps shatter these stereotypes, providing role models for future generations. This can create a more inclusive work environment and inspire more young women to consider non-traditional career paths. Furthermore, including women in construction helps address the gender pay gap. By creating equal opportunities, the industry can promote fairer compensation for all workers, leading to more equal pay between genders. Increasing female representation is beneficial for the overall well-being of the industry. Studies show that diverse teams often experience lower turnover rates and better collaboration, which can boost productivity and morale within the business. It also enhances innovation. We have found that diverse teams offer varied perspectives, leading to more creative problem-solving and efficient solutions. This brings fresh ideas to design, project management, and safety measures, which improves overall project quality. In addition, this may challenge traditional practices, leading to more sustainable, adaptable, and forward-thinking construction methods. In conclusion, having women in construction is vital for promoting equality, fostering innovation and improving the overall health of the industry and GPF Lewis are very strong advocators of this. Any women in construction who are looking to further their career or simply want to know more about the opportunities at GPF Lewis please contact vicki.burns@gpflewis.co.uk

Recently Completed - RAAC Replacement 🎊 This project involved the removal of the existing RAAC roof slabs and the shallow-pitched roof at a college in Hampshire The existing roofing system was replaced with new acoustic corrugated metal sheeting, alongside the installation of a new shallow-pitched standing seam roof and gutters. Additionally, the pitched skylights were replaced with polycarbonate alternatives. Internally, the works included the provision of deflection head details at the walls, and the reinstallation of all ceiling-hung services, which had been removed. This included lighting, new air conditioning units, and one area of lay-in grid ceiling. Throughout the project, separation between operatives and students was maintained to ensure safety, with minimal disruption to the college. The completed works ensured that the internal areas were restored to their original state, but with a newly installed roof system that eliminated any risk of failure. As the college offers construction courses, a site tour was organised for students, as well as a factory visit. #RAACreplacement #refurbishment #safety

Our Project’s Division are delighted to share their recently completed project at Rivers House in Brentford. This stylish property, located just opposite Kew Bridge, looks amazing again following major fire remediation works undertaken. This project involved the removal of the entire existing EPS render insulation system on all external walls and the installation of a new fully compliant insulated system, including all necessary fire barriers. Undertaken on behalf of Stiles Harold Williams Partnership LLP, the building's location near the main line train service meant that the work was not without its challenges. However, our team closely liaised with Network Rail and other relevant stakeholders to ensure all necessary permits and approvals were secured. #facades #fireremidation #buildingsafetyact

Last night, our project team working on LSO – St Luke's had the pleasure of attending a performance at the Barbican Centre for the London Symphony Orchestra's Half Six Fix concert, featuring Ralph Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony. It was wonderful to witness firsthand how our refurbishment work at St Luke's adds value and importance to such events.

GPF Lewis were privileged with a visit from Homes England on not one but two of our lives sites currently undergoing fundamental fire remediation works. Crowndale House is currently having fire barriers and external brickwork facades replaced while Kinver House is undergoing fire barrier upgrade works and replacement of both timber and metal external wall cladding. It was a great experience for our team to meet their counterparts at Home’s England who have been working collaboratively to keep the information flowing between all parties to make the most expedient progress possible in concluding these schemes. This was also a great opportunity for Homes England to see first hand the hard work that is going into ensuring buildings meet the requirements needed to ensure they are safe for residence through the Cladding Safety Scheme. Last week, our site team organised a successful tour for construction students on one of our current projects in Hampshire. Both the students and their teachers showed great enthusiasm and curiosity about the advanced processes on display. GPF Lewis and Crendon Timber Engineering Ltd delivered an engaging classroom presentation that covered timber sourcing, the design process, and the end products. The group was split into two, each taking a guided tour of the yard and production facilities. The factory’s dedication to sustainability and carbon footprint reduction was particularly highlighted during the visit. A big thank you to Crendon for making this valuable experience possible. #construction #givingback #socialvalue
