“Collaboration between investors, the government, academia, and various industry players is under way to do things better than yesterday, producing more energy and managing sites that recognise broader social and environmental considerations than climate alone.” Greenbank investment director David Nicholsby recently organised a visit to a solar farm in Somerset for staff and professional contacts. Investment analyst Will Findlay-Wilson, CFA gives a first-hand account of the trip, and explains the context, and some of the considerations, of solar power generation. We’re moving! Our Bristol team, along with the wider Rathbones Bristol team are excited to announce our relocation to the new ‘state of the art’ EQ Building in the heart of Bristol. The EQ building is Bristol’s first new build office committed to delivering net zero carbon in operation, in accordance with the UK Green Building Council’s framework approach. The space combines cutting-edge design with sustainability credentials and a commitment to employee wellbeing. The building is both energy efficient and health-focused with features such as a cycle store, car charging points, 600 sqm of PV panels, and air quality monitoring. David Cox, CAIA, head of Greenbank said: “Moving to the EQ building marks an exciting new chapter for Greenbank. As our team continues to expand we are committed to ensuring our work environment has sustainability at its heart.”

The eagerly awaited House of Lords Committee on Food, Diet and Obesity report has landed today. The Investor Coalition on Food Policy gave oral and written evidence to the enquiry and we are delighted to see our recommendations feature heavily in the report, including: - To make a decisive shift away from voluntary measures, to make it mandatory for large food businesses to report on the healthiness of their sales. - To reshape the incentives for the food industry through a coherent, long-term set of policy interventions, including considering an extension of the Soft Drinks industry levy to cover sugar and salt. - The need for a whole-government approach to deliver a long-term food strategy, with support at the highest level. “The past is no longer a reliable guide to the future for risk planning.” As the world gets warmer and parts of it become uninsurable, our recent Green Shoots webinar asked whether insurers can still effectively model and price climate risk. Investment manager Joel Swift talked through some of the reasons insurance costs are rising and explained what ‘the protection gap’ is. Senior campaigner and organiser Isabelle L'Héritier of Insure Our Future Global also joined the session to explore the role the insurance industry can play in influencing the energy transition. “… Greenbank have been operating within ethical and sustainable investing for over 20 years, and yes, we see growing interest among younger investors, but we have some fantastically engaged investors in their eighties who have been real trailblazers in this space.” Listen to Greenbank’s head of ethical, sustainable and impact research Kate Elliot speaking to Amy Austin of FT Adviser along with Toby Band - Financial Adviser, PTS, DipPFS, EFA of First Sentinel Wealth, for the FT Adviser #podcast. Greenbank Investment Director David Nicholsby had a busy day at this year’s SRI Services conference for #GoodMoneyWeek. David was part of the conference Panel 4 which looked at ‘Articulating sustainability with confidence’ and he spoke to many #IFAs who shared insights into the difficulties they are facing when talking to their clients about #sustainableinvestment. Thanks once again to Julia Dreblow and her team for another successful and interesting event. #sutanability #sustainableinvesting #greeninvestment

A NEW Employment Rights Bill has been published today 👷🏾♀️🧑🏼🏭🧑🏿💼👩🏼🍳 In its ‘New Deal for Working People,’ and promise to ‘Make Work Pay’ - The Labour Party pledged to introduce a new bill with extensive changes to employment law. The bill has been published today, and alongside a number of investors belonging to our ‘Good Work’ and/or ‘Long-term Investors in People’s Health’ coalitions, we’ve written to Angela Rayner and Jonathan Reynolds MP to tell them our thoughts. We outline what's needed to improve the Employment Rights Bill and Living Wage proposals, including: 💸 A genuine living wage that reflects the cost of living for low-paid workers, closing income inequality and boosting productivity; 🔒 Stronger job security, including fair notice periods and compensation for shift changes; 🤒 Improved Statutory Sick Pay from day one, removing waiting days and thresholds, and raising the minimum rate. These steps will enhance workers' wellbeing, reduce turnover, and create long-term economic stability. Another volatile month for major equity markets as encouraging news from central banks was offset by political uncertainty and sluggish economic data. The head of the World Trade Organization called for a global carbon pricing system to prevent trade disputes, and average annual losses from global natural catastrophes reached a new high, with actual insurable losses averaging over $100 billion for the fifth consecutive year.
