Promise made; promise delivered... GW Highways are delighted to announce we have achieved carbon neutrality verification. GW Highways has achieved carbon neutrality in accordance with PAS 2060:2014. We are committed to reducing emissions, monitoring progress through annual verification. Our Term Services Director, David Gibbins said, ‘We are the only infrastructure business fully accountable for scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions across all our UK operations. While we continue to reduce emissions from our activities, we support the immediate ambitions to accelerate to net zero and have looked at the voluntary carbon market to mitigate our climate impact today’. The Carbon Trust continues to work with us on this journey, providing expert guidance on corporate climate action. Dom Burbridge, Director, Climate Risk & Net Zero at the Carbon Trust, says: ‘The work GW Highways has carried out so far to engage their supply chain on carbon reduction highlights the importance of collaboration in reducing the impact of business on the climate.’ We are delighted to announce we are now working with Climate Impact Partners: specialist in carbon market solutions for climate action. Climate Impact Partners sources sustainable infrastructure projects verified to leading international standards that support renewable energy and decrease dependence on fossil fuels. Natalie Taylor, Director of Client Solutions at Climate Impact Partners, explains: ‘Our joined-up approach helps organisations like GW Highways address their environmental impacts through high-quality carbon market solutions that also deliver positive impact for nature and local communities.’ Our journey is far from finished; our goal is to achieve organisational net zero before 2050. A family visit with some of the GW Highways team to visit Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex at their headquarters at Redhill and see the helicopters and the amazing efforts that go on behind the scenes to provide this life saving service. We all had a wonderful morning, so interesting to see the equipment and meet some of the team and share this with our loved ones. We are proud to support KSS as our corporate charity partner. Here are some interesting statistics about the charity: Responded to a record 3,328 missions in 2023 Respond to nine emergency calls on average every day Other facts: 70% of patients were male, 42% of jobs are within Kent; 28% are road traffic collisions. 16% are under 20 years or younger.

Through GW Highways affiliation with the Armed Forces Covenant, the Malling Sea Cadets reached out to us to see if we could provide any support. Philippa Eadington attended a parade and information giving evening, where we were so impressed at the dedication and camaraderie of the cadets and the volunteers, that we subsequently sponsored all cadets to attend a course of water sports in Chatham. The aim of the Sea Cadet Corps (SCC) is to help young people towards responsible adulthood and to encourage them to reach their potential by developing valuable personal attributes and high standards of conduct, using a nautical theme based on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy. The Cadets thoroughly enjoyed themselves and have shared these photos with us.

GW Highways are immensely proud to have been “Highly Commended” in the Environmental Sustainability Award at the Highway Awards 2024, hosted by Highways Magazine. By aligning with a science-based trajectory to net-zero and in-depth evidence of our baseline emissions, we have achieved a 31% absolute reduction in our carbon footprint since 2022. Coupled with our carbon neutral promise across our entire UK operations, certified under PAS 2060:2014, this is a major milestone in a longer decarbonisation plan to achieve the goal of organisational net-zero before 2050. Congratulations to all winners on the night. A fantastic evening enjoyed by team GW Highways.

GWH are delighted to have funded coaches and football equipment for an anti-gangs and knife crime project which spanned 24 weeks, run by Wembley Football in the London Borough of Brent. Approximately, 200 children and young people took part in the programme, including a number of young women and girls. The football sessions took place every Saturday morning with an average attendance of 80 children and young people aged 9 -14 years old. In addition, a mental health workshop was facilitated and well attended. Wembley Football quoted “The project has made a huge difference for youngsters in Brent, especially as there are not many free activities in the area”.
