Habitat for Humanity Ireland
Non-profit Organizations
Everyone, everywhere needs a place to call home.
About us
At Habitat for Humanity, our vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. One in four people in our world live in poor housing. Families are forced to live in places that are cold and damp, overcrowded or do not have a door that locks. Simple homes save lives. Families are healthier, children do better in school and parents have a chance to earn a stable income. Every day, Habitat for Humanity works beside families to build, renovate or repair their home in 70 countries around the world. Habitat advocates to improve access to affordable shelter and support funding models that enable families with limited resources make vital improvements to their homes. In Ireland, Habitat brings people together from across the community to serve the most vulnerable. It raises funds to support long-term partner programmes in some of our world’s poorest communities. Habitat is a Christian housing organisation which welcomes people of all faiths and none to help build a world where everyone has a decent place to live. On Friday we said 'Auf Wiederschauen' to Keira who completed her 4-week placement in ReStore Lisburn as part of a programme with Intern Europe Ltd. We want to say a big thank you to Keira for all of her hard work and support over her 4 weeks with us. Here's what Keira had to say when we asked her about her ReStore experience: "Since being in ReStore I've really learned to open myself up more, be more confident and understand all of the accents! There are so many different people who come in to ReStore and everyone is treated and valued equally. Being a part of ReStore and meeting all of the lovely staff and volunteers was definitely a highlight for me- I especially loved working with the other volunteers." If you, or someone you know, would like to learn more about volunteering in ReStore, find all the info you need on our website: https://lnkd.in/et8ifvvA

#UrbanOctober #HomeEquals In the northern Brazilian city of Manaus sits an informal settlement of 2,000 families belonging to 14 different indigenous groups. It is called Nova Vida, or “New Life.” But building a new life here has proven difficult, as the community is fighting to obtain titles to the land and, subsequently, access to the basic services such as water and electricity as well as schools and health care facilities. Through the Home Equals campaign, Habitat and our partners will be seeking policy and systems changes that help communities much like Nova Vida access basic services and tenure security through empowered participation in processes that give them real input into solutions. Hilda, her husband Joao and stepson Miguel have lived in the community for years. She has said that her biggest dream is to get title to the community and for everyone to be able to live in their homes without fear of eviction.
