Yesterday 15 of us headed to Deer Park, Cowley (GirlGuiding HQ) to volunteer for the day! The morning was drizzly but everyone was eager to start the first task of pulling up nettles, brambles and brash on the main site, revealing some saplings in need of some TLC. We earned a mid-morning tea and coffee break with some cupcakes baked by the Diamonds (volunteers) and treats brought in by Founder, Craig M.. After a few solid hours we were then treated to lunch at The Green Dragon to fuel for the afternoons work. When we returned back to base we split off into groups to complete different tasks. Some continued with the weeding, others went to dig a ditch and the rest were digging up stones and creating a mini wall around the logs that lead a neat path around the woods. Of course, the afternoon also featured a well earned tea, coffee and biscuit break. We had a fantastic day helping out the team at Deer Park and we can't wait to return again, hopefully with better weather! Mark, Max, Louis, James, Liam and Geoff are embarking on an extraordinary challenge, tackling a 6 km run with 21 intense obstacles. Amongst these obstacles are the daunting catacombs of doom and the chilling Sheep Dip, a 2m long, and 2 ft wide submerged drainage pipe. This adventure is definitely not for the faint of heart! 🏃♂️💪 They're raising money for Cancer Research UK in the process. You can check out their Just Giving page in the comments below!
