Updates

  • Hanbury colleagues Vincenzo Polverino and Ricardo Berenguer Asensi recently travelled to Strasbourg to attend the European Parliament's Plenary session. This event provided a unique opportunity to engage with key stakeholders from the EU, discussing the key political issues of the moment - defence, simplification of business reporting requirements, and the future of AI. In the coming months, Hanbury’s team will continue to engage in discussions on these topics and provide actionable insights to clients on their impact on both EU and other businesses. Get in touch if you're interested in understanding how these topics are evolving.

Chief Executive Officer - Hanbury Strategy

What a night! It’s been nearly six months since I joined Hanbury Strategy as CEO, and on Monday it was such a pleasure to host nearly fifty senior business leaders, in a beautiful space provided by the team at Spotify. It was fantastic to be joined by Peter Kyle, the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology for a ‘fireside chat’ about everything from the huge challenges he faced and fought in his early life and career, to how he wants to build the UK into an AI superpower. A huge thank you as well to Douglas Alexander, the Minister for Trade and Economic Security, for speaking to so many of our clients about everything from how businesses can engage with his department to the future of international trade and tariffs. By a mile, the best part of my job is speaking to companies up and down the country about the challenges and opportunities they face, and working out ways to make Government sit up and listen. If you ever fancy a chat - drop me a line!

As part of our showcase of senior women in communications to celebrate #IWD we hear from Emilie Oldknow OBE Chartered FCIPD, CEO at Hanbury Strategy My Journey from Mid to Senior Level Transitioning from a mid-level position to a senior role at 25 wasn’t easy. With support from my female colleagues, I navigated challenges by treating colleagues with respect and learning from my mistakes. What I Love About My Role At Hanbury I enjoy the varied nature of my work, from data analysis to leading sessions on female leadership. It’s fast-paced, and I learn something new every day. Balancing Work and Life Balancing work and life is tricky, but my dad has been a pillar of strength. I’ve let go of guilt and hope to inspire other working parents to feel confident in their choices. Investing in Development As Hanbury’s first CEO I actively seek advice and support and have started professional coaching sessions to enhance my skills. #AccelerateAction Towards Gender Equality I’m proud to have launched Hanbury’s first women’s leadership development programme. I’m committed to increasing #paytransparency and ensuring meaningful change in our industry. Read the full blog here: https://wix.to/43p8fjt #ForAllWomenAndGirls

  • Congrats to the winners of our February values awards! The values awards celebrate team members who go above and beyond to contribute to Hanbury life, and are chosen by a combination of partners and the wider team. Tom F. took the prize this month for delivering outstanding work during a hectic period for a client, all while supporting junior colleagues and contributing positively to the team. His enthusiasm, and presence in the office make him a truly valued team member.   The spot prize goes to someone who has been a positive influence in the office, or has gone above and beyond for colleagues or clients. This month's prize went to Johann Diaz Manzano. Johann expertly guided a client team through an exceptionally busy period, but always with a smile on his face and a kind word for his colleagues. His leadership and great energy make him a pleasure to work with every day.

  • To celebrate Shrove Tuesday / Pancake Day, we hosted our annual ‘Big Breakfast’ fundraising for our long-standing charity partner Magic Breakfast. The team put on an impressive spread of breakfast treats — all in support of tackling morning hunger in schools across England and Scotland. The brilliant team at Magic Breakfast provides free breakfasts and expert advice to over 200,000 children and young people every day, ensuring no child starts the day too hungry to learn. Beyond grassroots support, they work tirelessly to drive change through advocacy with politicians and decision-makers. We’ve proudly supported Magic Breakfast for over four years, and today’s Big Breakfast was a great success - raising over £380! With many more fundraising events planned this year, we’re excited to keep making a difference. A huge thank you to everyone who took part—both in the kitchen and in donating!

  • What's top of employers' minds right now? Generational changes to workplace rights. As the Government's landmark Employment Rights Bill continues to make its way through Parliament this week, polling for Hanbury (first reported by City AM) reveals that employers are more concerned about the impact of the bill than upcoming National Insurance Contribution hikes. More than 1/3 of bosses cited the far-reaching overhaul of employment rights as the biggest challenge facing their organisation in 2025 compared to 19% who called out NICs changes. Speaking to City AM, our CEO Emilie Oldknow OBE Chartered FCIPD said: "With the legislation set to pass later this year, employers’ window to plan is narrowing. Now is the time to fully understand the impact of the changes on individual businesses and prepare." Effective internal communications and employee engagement are more critical than ever. Hanbury can help to guide clients through the implications of these changes and help communicate them clearly and effectively to their teams. • Another great discussion yesterday as part of our ☕ Hanbury Espresso ☕ series in Brussels with Paolo Pasimeni, Deputy Chief Economist, at the European Commission’s DG GROW. Moderated by our own Tom Denney, we heard some brilliant insights into EU competitiveness and the upcoming Single Market Strategy, touching upon topics like trade, tariffs, supply chain security and energy prices in today’s uncertain world. Stay tuned for more Hanbury Espresso events on the key policy topics that matter. And do reach out if you’re interested in attending in the future.
