This year marks #40years since the coal miners’ strike of 1984-5. Deindustrialisation impacted many areas and communities across the north of England and the Midlands.  Harworth has been instrumental in the regeneration of former coalfields, by combining our skills as master developer with corresponding investment to create vibrant new places. Today, beyond the presence of growing communities and successful new industry, these places boast thriving green spaces which are protecting and enhancing the natural environment. Across these sites – and our wider portfolio – our developments are home to a variety of wildlife including birds and woodland creatures alongside trees, nature trails, wetlands and heathlands.  🌳On the site of the former Thoresby Colliery, Harworth are creating Thoresby Vale. We capped two mine shafts and restored the spoil heap, and with the support of Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust turned half of this into the heather-capped moorland that mirrors the wider Nottinghamshire region. This 350-acre country park offers views of the historic Sherwood Forest and has been a receptor for species not previously recorded living onsite such as the Welsh Clearing Moth. 🦋 In Leicestershire, at Bardon Hill in Coalville, plentiful green spaces are co-located with high quality industrial and logistics space. We have boosted biodiversity by creating a 10-acre local wildlife site at the River Sence which acts as a green corridor and a haven for the region’s fauna. Over 3,000 deciduous trees have been planted, 99 per cent of which are native, alongside wildflowers and two storm attenuation ponds. 🚵♀️One of our landmark developments in the North West, Logistics North, is home to a 550-acre country park on the site of the former Cutacre opencast mine. With 18km of footpaths, bridleways and cycle paths, this expansive park is becoming a place for the local community and those employed at Logistics North to come together, exercise and socialise among the grasslands, woodland and wildlife ponds. Across our schemes, we continue to develop responsibly, regenerating areas and creating spaces that people will enjoy for generations to come. #regeneration #countrypark #woodland #wildlife #creatingplaces

🌲THORESBY VALE COUNTRY PARK GRAND OPENING Harworth is pleased to announce the opening of a new 350-acre country park at our Thoresby Vale development in Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, in the heart of Sherwood Forest. The regeneration of the former Thoresby Colliery is now home to a thriving community where Harworth is bringing forward up to 800 new homes, a primary school, alongside commercial and leisure spaces. As part of Harworth’s commitment to giving back to nature, the new park – formerly the spoil heap of the old colliery - features over 100 acres of restored heathland which is now one of the most threatened habitats and home to unique wildlife. The park also benefits from a picnic area and new purpose-built footpaths and cycleways. The grand opening recently took place on site where the local community, council and key delivery partners joined the celebrations with the Harworth team for a range of family-friendly community activities including archery, face painting, tombola, refreshments and even an orchestra! The ceremonial ribbon was cut by Paul Peacock, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, alongside Harworth’s Chief Operating Officer, Andrew Blackshaw. The grand opening was also supported and attended by Cllr Emma Oldham, Cllr Keith Girling and members of Edwinstowe Parish Council. View the video below:

HARWORTH’S BLUEPRINT FOR GROWTH   ✅ Developing skills and harnessing talent – an evolved approach to providing the skills that employers need.   We’re already facing a skills shortage in the UK. As we look to boost homegrown industries and attract investment into emerging sectors, it’s essential that the country’s workforce has the prerequisite skills and expertise needed to support this growth. Across our commercial developments in the north of England and the Midlands – from the Advanced Manufacturing Park to Logistics North – we’re developing the spaces to attract high quality occupiers, who in turn can support skills development across the regions.  But policy change is needed on a broader level to ensure our regions continue to be attractive for businesses. In our Blueprint for Growth we’re calling for more comprehensive initiatives to equip people with the right skills that lead to high quality jobs, improved life outcomes and economic prosperity.   🤝🏻 Collaboration between the public and private sector is crucial. We need a more coordinated approach to skills development between local and national government, education providers and the private sector. 🔧 Apprenticeship schemes should be tailored to align with the specific opportunities in each region – whether that is advanced manufacturing, biotech or data technologies.  🏢 Learning needs to be made more accessible to people living across the country, such as through creating regional centres of excellence.   Read more about our proposals for boosting skills and opportunities in the UK in our Blueprint for Growth here: https://lnkd.in/et7DkaYe #growth #skills #talent

⭐ MILESTONE REACHED AT HARWORTH'S CHATTERLEY PARK DEVELOPMENT Harworth is pleased to announce the reopening of Peacock Hay Road at its 106 acre Chatterley Park development. This marks an important milestone for the development, and enables the delivery of a number of commercial units ranging from 25,000 sq. ft. to 518,000 sq. ft. The road links Talke and Tunstall and sees the installation of a new roundabout which opens the main access to Chatterley Park. The Chatterley Park development is already well advanced, currently undergoing major remediation and earthworks to create development plateaus for the site. Works will continue through this year and into next, on completion this 108 acre site is expected to deliver 1.1 million sq. ft. of new Industrial & Logistics space and will create thousands of new jobs. Collaborating with our partners and local authorities, Staffordshire County Council and Newcastle Under Lyme, is fundamental to the success of large-scale regeneration projects like Chatterley Park. 🗣 Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet support member for highways Keith Flunder commented: “Chatterley Valley West is one of Staffordshire’s key business development sites, unlocking a major parcel of industrial land. We’re pleased to have worked with Harworth to ensure Peacock Hay Road has been able to reopen as soon as was safe to do so. It’s great to see such good progress on site too. This is another example of how we work successfully with partners to deliver major infrastructure projects. We’d like to thank communities and businesses for their patience and understanding while the work has taken place.” 🗣 Stephen Sweeney, Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council’s Deputy Leader of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Cabinet member for Finance, Town Centres and Growth, said: “I’m very pleased that the site is making progress and will soon be ready to welcome new, job-creating businesses to the area.” 🗣 Mark Nicholson, Senior Development Manager at Harworth commented: “Chatterley Park has reached an important milestone with the re-opening of Peacock Hay Road, an important link that provides direct access to our Chatterley Park development and the A500. Alongside the road opening we have also completed the first development plateau, and this site is starting to take shape very quickly. We will continue actively engaging with both local and national businesses and look forward to welcoming our first occupiers to the site.” For all letting enquiries, please contact the assigned agents: Rob Taylor, David Binks, Richard James-Moore, Richard Johnson #newunits #industrial #logistics #regeneration #staffordshire

We recently welcomed the new Mayor of York and North Yorkshire David Skaith to our Gascoigne Interchange site alongside the MP for Selby Keir Mather and representatives from North Yorkshire Council, Mark Crane and Chief Executive James Farrar. As part of the visit we also invited Place North to create a video that featured Harworth’s Chief Operating Officer Andrew Blackshaw, Regional Director for Yorkshire & Central Chris Davidson, and our public and private sector partners to showcase our plans to transform the site of the former Selby Colliery into a major rail-connected industrial and logistics hub that will create thousands of new jobs and drive significant growth in the region. In June, Gascoigne Interchange secured planning permission for the development of up to 1.5m sq. ft. The masterplan can deliver a range of units to suit occupier requirements up to a maximum footprint of 1 million sq. ft., all built to Grade A specification. The large site benefits from excellent power access and extensive rail connections, marking this as one of North Yorkshire’s most regionally significant developments. #newunits #industrial #logistics #construction #rail #connectivity

HARWORTH’S BLUEPRINT FOR GROWTH ✅ Incentivising International Investment For the UK’s regions to grow and succeed, they need to secure stable inward investment. In South Yorkshire, global businesses such as Boeing and McLaren Automotive Ltd have chosen to operate from our flagship development, the Advanced Manufacturing Park. Their investment, alongside other local and national occupiers such as X-Cel Group , combined with the co-location of higher educational presence AMRC has created an ecosystem of high-quality, skilled jobs for the region and significantly contributed to its growth in recent years. Our regions require stable, long-term investment to support the continued growth of advanced manufacturing and wider emerging industries such as life sciences and agritech. In our Blueprint for Growth, published in May, we called for policy changes to enable this – from the development of financial incentives to attract international investment through to the creation of a robust strategy to match funding with large-scale regeneration sites that meet occupier requirements. It was a pleasure to welcome the new Mayor of York and North Yorkshire David Skaith to our Gascoigne Interchange site last week alongside the MP for Selby and Kippax Keir Mather, representatives from North Yorkshire Council including executive member for open to business Cllr Mark Crane and York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.   In June, Harworth’s plans to transform the site of the former Selby Colliery into a major rail-connected industrial and logistics hub with up to 1.5 million sq ft of space were approved by North Yorkshire Council. Gascoigne Interchange has the potential to create thousands of new jobs and drive significant growth in the region.   We are pleased to be working closely with our public sector partners to deliver this important regeneration project and bring a strategically-located brownfield site back into use.

Public and private sector relationships are essential for achieving our full potential in York and North Yorkshire. I recently visited the Gascoigne Interchange site near Sherburn-in-Elmet with Harworth Group plc, North Yorkshire Council and Keir Mather MP, a critical site that can connect York and North Yorkshire with the wider Yorkshire region and the rest of the UK, with most of the country within three hours of the site, and rail links to ports in the east, west and south of the country. The site has the potential to create thousands of jobs. It is rather unique in that it can connect the businesses that are based here with a low carbon freight terminal, aligning with our ambitions for green growth and to become the first carbon negative region in England. This is an example of a brilliant collaboration between the private and public sectors to create opportunities and jobs on brownfield sites. Read more: https://hubs.ly/Q02HMrfS0

HARWORTH NEWS   Harworth is pleased to announce that today it released its trading update for the first half of 2024, please find the highlights below: Lynda Shillaw, Chief Executive of Harworth Group, commented:   “This has been another strong first half for planning approvals and land sales, the highlight being the exchange of contracts on a £107 million serviced land sale to Microsoft at a significant premium to book value, our largest transaction to date. We continue to see strong demand for Harworth’s serviced land and employment spaces, with the recent momentum in serviced land sales highlighting the strength of our markets and these sales provide a stable funding channel for our Industrial & Logistics development programme.   “The recently announced evolution of our strategy sets a clear direction for the Group. It reflects our strong conviction in the demand for Industrial & Logistics space in our regions which is underpinned by limited supply, and our ability to unlock the significant embedded value in our extensive development pipeline to meet our growth targets.”   Read more here: https://lnkd.in/grZnXrb3
