🏡 Hastoe Housing Association is providing nine affordable rented and shared ownership homes for local people in the village of Eltisley. 🏡 As a founding member of the Rural Housing Alliance, we have a long-established and deep commitment to working alongside local communities to provide high-quality, affordable homes. The homes in Eltisley are being built on a rural exception site – a small site used for affordable housing in perpetuity, where sites would not normally be used for housing. Rural exception sites seek to address the needs of the local community by accommodating households who are either current residents or have an existing family or employment connection. 🏡 At Hastoe, we’re a passionate supporter of rural communities, working in partnership with local people, councils and a range of other partners to deliver what people want and need. 🚮 Throughout Unblocktober, we’re supporting our residents to learn how they can play a part in reducing plastic #pollution in our environment. 🚮 We’ve shared some shocking statistics to help raise awareness that we all need to do more. For example: did you know that 11 million tonnes of plastic is dumped into the ocean every year? We want our residents to know that many items have hidden plastics. E.g. disposable face masks, tea bags, chewing gum, wet wipes and cotton buds. To help the health of our #drainage systems, we’re encouraging everyone to bin these items, not flush! As a Homes for Cathy member, Hastoe believes that housing associations have a critical role to play in ending homelessness. Homes for Cathy was founded in 2016 when a small group of housing associations came together to mark the 50th anniversary of the seminal film ‘Cathy Come Home’. 🎞️ Housing associations play a crucial role in homelessness prevention support, the most common types being advice and support to sustain a tenancy, identifying and intervening when a resident is at risk of eviction, and providing advice and support to help residents access welfare benefits*. Hastoe’s team know this first hand, and often have a key role to play in helping support previously homeless people into new homes. 🐳 This month, we are supporting #Unblocktober, encouraging our residents to make small changes to help improve the health of our drains, sewers, watercourses and seas. 🐳 We have asked residents to avoid putting cooking oils/fats or plastics in their sink or toilet. Here are three easy steps to achieve this: 1️⃣ Get a bathroom bin to keep those wipes and cotton buds out of the pipes! 2️⃣ Pop a sink strainer in to catch those pesky food scraps before they cause trouble. 3️⃣ Cool your cooking fats, let them solidify, and bin them to avoid blockages.
