Last Thursday, Niamh Heffernan, Felix Jackson, Lia Deans and Emily Hill attended the latest members showcase at Mission Market for some community outreach ahead of the launch of our flagship Food and Beverage Accelerator beginning in January 2025 in partnership with Southwark Council. Thanks to the incredible team of Mission Kitchen Isabella Mahoney and Ivan Cardoso, we were able to chat to some fantastic founders holding space in the South London community kitchen and speak to local entrepreneurs about how the upcoming Accelerator could support them in building their business and setting them up to scale. Some businesses we had the pleasure of introducing ourselves to at the event included MOMO Kombucha | B Corp™, Third Culture Kat and Rye Lane Hot Sauce🙌 For food and beverage businesses in London, we highly recommend checking out Mission Kitchen. It offers commercial kitchen space, test kitchen space, and a community of like-minded businesses all under one roof! Our applications will open publicly this Friday 1st November, with two Accelerators on offer within the Southwark borough. To be one of the first to hear about all the programmes we have coming up for January 2025, you can subscribe to our newsletter via our website: https://lnkd.in/dCyGzjH #HospitalityBusiness #HospitalitySector #Hospitality #FoodAndDrink #FoodBusiness #DrinksBusiness #Entrepreneurship

About us
Hatch is a national charity that supports underrepresented entrepreneurs from across the UK to launch and grow businesses that are both sustainable and successful, and have a lasting impact on their communities. We’re committed to building a fairer society by helping develop entrepreneurs’ skills, knowledge, and confidence through our unique programmes designed by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs, and our sustainable, compassionate financial support offering. We’re not typical of the third sector. Although we’re a charity, we think and act like a business. Since 2014, we’ve supported more than 7,800 UK entrepreneurs to flourish, building a vibrant network of partners, funders, and investors who share our vision in the process. In 2022-23, more than 8 in 10 (84%) founders on our longer-term support programmes were female or from a marginalised gender, with more than 6 in 10 (64%) coming from a minority ethnic group. Nearly one in five (18%) founders on the same programmes told us they were disabled or neurodiverse. Our founders also told us the areas of knowledge and expertise they felt had seen the biggest improvements before and after completing a Hatch programme: - Accessing the funding they needed saw an increase of 97% - Measuring and communicating the impact of their business or organisation saw increases of 79% and 69% respectively. - Setting their organisation’s mission and vision saw an increase of 49% We estimate that since starting 10 years ago, businesses founded by our graduates employ more than 2,500 people in the UK and have raised more than £20m in investment. We work closely with our partners and funders, including UBS, J.P. Morgan, Yum!, Natwest and the Postcode Innovation Trust, bringing them closer to founders at every stage of their entrepreneurial journey. e: hello@hatchenterpise.org t: 020 7993 0074 Twitter: @HatchEnterprise FB: www.facebook.com/HatchEnterprise Instagram: hatchenterprise

Our most recent grant round included a massive £57,550 funding contribution from a long-standing partner of our charitable mission, UBS. This contribution has provided 19 entrepreneurs at Launchpad and Incubator stage with grants to invest into their growing businesses. The Hatch Fund was established in 2022 to enable business founders from diverse backgrounds to overcome barriers to growth typically faced by these groups in the startup sector. The impact these grants are already having on those in receipt of the money shows just how crucial these grants are to support not only businesses and their possibility for innovations but also that boost of confidence that comes with securing funding and what that can do for the belief system of an entrepreneur and their venture moving forward. "My work does have value, there’s worth in what I do." Katie Cory is the founder of Peb and Reg, a positivity-led stationery brand that seeks to spread joy and promote well-being through its illustrated lifestyle gifts. An experienced graphic and website designer with an impressive freelance career under her belt, Katie launched the brand as a way to channel her expertise into a creative outlet that resonated with her personal style. As someone living with chronic illnesses and neurodivergence, the business allows her to fit work around managing her health and share with the world the designs that personally bring her so much joy. The transition from idea to reality can be a tricky step to navigate in the entrepreneurial journey. Managing two chronic health conditions, fibromyalgia and ME, alongside juggling freelance work didn’t leave Katie a lot of time to commit to her new business idea and it was an easy thing to keep putting off. It was joining a Hatch Launchpad programme, and subsequently having to carve out the time to attend regular sessions, that marked a turning point and cemented Katie’s commitment to her business. The programme also gave her the practical knowledge on how to launch Peb and Reg as well as the supportive community of like-minded peers to rely on. “They taught me that my work does have value, there’s worth in what I do.” Read Katie's story ❤️ https://lnkd.in/eUNYNCsT

🏆 Empowerment, mentorship and upskilling: It’s the golden triangle for success in the creative industries. This weekend’s Black Creatives Development Day, brought to Manchester by Black Creative Trailblazers in partnership with Hatch Enterprise UK, Cultureville and Sister, blended these qualities to spotlight and nurture the immense talent within the Black creative community. A report commissioned by the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre in 2020 found that only 2% of workers in the UK’s creative industries are Black, so how can the representation gap be closed? 🤝 Unrestricted access to mentors and employment toolkits is key, and this event was dedicated to uplifting and supporting creatives with 1:1 creative clinics with industry professionals who have been there, and know what it takes to succeed. From learning how to negotiate contracts to pitching as a freelancer, attendees were invited to build their networks whilst learning how to thrive in the industry. Some key takeaways included: ➡️ Having a strong support network is something that money can’t buy ➡️ When applying for funding, be very specific about why you need funding and how it will help you grow ➡️ Always show up for yourself and your authentic self If you took part in the event, we would love to keep in touch. Tag us in your photos from Saturday, or leave your social media handles below to grow your Manchester community even further. #BlackCreativesDevelopmentDay #ManchesterCreatives #CreativeIndustry #CreativeSkills #ManchesterEvent 📸 Photo Credit: Sampy T

The Hatch Enterprise team had the pleasure of attending the Funding Circle UK Fresher Fair at the beginning of the month, where we got the opportunity to talk to Funding Circle staff about the impact we’re making to democratise entrepreneurship in the UK through our programmatic and community-based support for underrepresented entrepreneurs across the country. It was encouraging to hear from so many at the company who have already provided mentoring and friendly dragon support to entrepreneurs in the Hatch community. Plus, this brilliant opportunity to chat face-to-face with the Funding Circle team allowed us to sign up more volunteers for our post-programme support opportunities as we go into our third year of partnership with Funding Circle. A massive thank you to Fransien Hermans and Reem Akl from Funding Circle for organising this opportunity for us to share our impact and to Felix JacksonRishi Aila, Deryl Thatcher (Walsh) MCIOF and Naomi Nathan from the Hatch team for representing our work at the fair! Our mission to build a better world through entrepreneurship takes a village, and we’re so grateful to the Funding Circle team for embodying our values through their volunteering to further our charitable mission and give invaluable guidance to underrepresented entrepreneurs. Thank you, Funding Circle UK! #Entrepreneurship #FundingCircle #SMEUK #BusinessGrowth #Mentoring #Volunteering

It’s #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek, and with stats estimating that between 20%-40% of entrepreneurs in the UK are dyslexic, there’s an intrinsic link between dyslexics and their success in entrepreneurship. To add context to this statistic, it’s estimated that 10% of the UK population are dyslexic. While acknowledging the challenges those with dyslexia face, such as reading, writing, spelling and more personal challenges like self-esteem, there’s no doubt that dyslexic people have unique capabilities in how they process and, therefore, output information. Dyslexic people are considered more creative and better problem solvers; but there is very little research identifying where this stems from. Dyslexics connect dots differently and have the ability to lead and motivate teams with compassion, partly through their own experience of workplaces and school environments that largely didn’t accommodate their needs. We can all learn from others with different thinking styles, and we’re proud to give significant space to these ideas. Last year, 18% of those on our cohort programmes identified as disabled and/or neurodivergent. Our message to dyslexic entrepreneurs is simple - feel proud of your achievements and how you’ve navigated personal experience to build a career that enables you to mobilise your potential! #Dyslexia #DyslexicThinking #DyslexiaAwareness
