A huge thank you to everyone who joined our #YHealth4Growth event this week! It was fantastic to bring the conversation on health and economic inequalities in Yorkshire and the Humber to a reception kindly hosted by Fabian Hamilton MP. 🔎 We explored how place-based collaboration is making a real difference in addressing these challenges with support from partners, stakeholders, and cross-party MPs. We discussed the vital link between good health and economic growth, and how Yorkshire can lead the way focusing on People, Place, Partnerships and Purpose – the 4Ps, the model that we believe is the best way to tackle health inequalities and grow our economy and support the government's missions. As devolution continues to gain momentum and our region has a key role in advancing the government’s missions of health, opportunity, and economic growth. 🙏🏼 Thank you to all the organisations across the region that joined us on the day such as Propel@YH, The University of Huddersfield, and Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, all working together to put people first through collaborative, place-based solutions. 💻 For more insights on this work, check out our "Empowering Local Places for Health and Prosperity" white paper, offering key recommendations to bridge Yorkshire’s health and wealth gap. Yorkshire is well placed to be at the centre of the delivery of the health and growth mission for this government. Today, we’ve brought that discussion to parliament. 🏘 We’re thrilled to have been able to bring so many partners and key stakeholders, as well as regional MPs, together to explore how place-based working and partnerships are helping Yorkshire and the Humber tackle health and economic inequalities across the region. 📖 It's an important time to be influencing health and policy in the UK and we look forward to integrating our work into the government’s 10 year plan for the NHS and its industrial strategy. 📈 Yorkshire offers solutions to many of the health and economic challenges the UK faces. By taking advantage of the opportunities of increased devolution, our region can play a key role in supporting the government in its missions of kickstarting economic growth, breaking down barriers to individual opportunity, and building an NHS fit for the future. 🤝 Thank you to Fabian Hamilton MP for hosting the event and to our YHealth for Growth Partners Yorkshire Universities and NHS Confederation for joining us and sharing their views. 💬 It was also good to celebrate the work underway by partners across the region – all focused on a place-based approach that puts people at the centre, delivered through partnership and by working to a common purpose. Did you know that #Wakefield has a lower general health index than the averages for both England and Yorkshire and the Humber? And it has worse outcomes in cardiovascular disease, respiratory conditions, cancer, diabetes and kidney disease? Findings from a new project from our West Yorkshire Innovation Hub has shown that people living in areas of high deprivation and poverty have a higher demand on emergency services than those living in more affluent areas. Addressing these challenges requires a multifaceted approach integrating #datadrivenstrategies, #crosssectorcollaboration, and #innovativesolutions. Information has been gained through the collation and analysis of various data sources including the public’s perspectives on urgent and emergency care provision across Wakefield. This information has supported the development of a report and a short two-page document outlining seven recommendations. These recommendations provide suggestions to #enhancehealthcaredelivery, #reduceinequalities and #improvehealthoutcomes for the residents of Wakefield District, especially those in the most deprived populations.
