It was incredible to see one of our previous residents on Friday Jack. He now living independently after leaving Bancroft House. He proudly came in wearing his new work uniform, having just secured a full-time job starting this Monday. He has overcome an incredible journey and worked tirelessly to get to where he is now. Not only does he have a place to call home, but he also has a job and has reconnected with his family. Free from addiction, he is now living a life where he feels truly content and optimistic about his future.

Yesterday was a busy day with two visits to HMP Preston, where we met with seven veterans in custody. During the visits, we discussed support plans for three individuals who may be nearing release, ensuring that they have options to explore when they re-enter society. The remaining veterans were reassured that we are here to provide ongoing support whenever needed. These efforts are vital in helping them transition successfully and ensuring they have the resources and guidance necessary for a fresh start. Supporting prisoners in custody is crucial for several reasons. First, it promotes rehabilitation by addressing the underlying issues that may have led to criminal behavior, such as mental health struggles, addiction, or lack of education. Effective support helps them acquire the skills and mindset needed for reintegration into society, reducing the likelihood of reoffending. Additionally, providing care and support in custody fosters a safer prison environment, as prisoners who feel supported are less likely to engage in violence or disruptive behavior. Finally, supporting prisoners benefits society as a whole by breaking the cycle of crime and being sent to prison, leading to safer communities and reduced costs associated with repeat offenders.

It was an absolute pleasure for Andy our CEO to spend time with our staff members out on the ground which saw Adam and Keanne supporting the day as well as one of our residents Aaron. The event was put on by The Foxton Centre in Preston today. It was inspiring to see so many other organizations with the same vision and values, all working together to support those experiencing homelessness and striving to prevent further homelessness for those who have already been helped. World Homeless Day, observed annually on October 10th, raises awareness about the global issue of homelessness and encourages people to take action to support those without stable housing. The collective effort and dedication toward this cause are truly remarkable, and it was an honor to contribute to such an important initiative. It highlights the challenges faced by individuals and families living in insecure or unsafe conditions, and promotes the need for accessible services, housing, and compassionate support. This day serves as a reminder that homelessness is a shared responsibility, urging governments, communities, and individuals to work together to find sustainable solutions and help those affected regain stability and dignity in their lives. #WHD2024 Jeff Marsh

Today is World Mental Health Day 🌍💜 It’s an important day to raise awareness about mental health and remind everyone that it truly matters. Our residents have access to support from their dedicated workers and onsite psychotherapist and 3 other person centred councillors which our outreach beneficiaries take advantage off too, whenever they need help with their mental health and well-being. Looking after your mental health is crucial because it directly impacts every aspect of your life, from your emotional well-being to your physical health. Good mental health helps you manage stress, build resilience, and maintain healthy relationships. It enables you to make better decisions, stay productive, and cope with life’s challenges more effectively. Neglecting mental health, on the other hand, can lead to feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, depression, and even physical illnesses. By prioritising mental health, you foster a balanced, fulfilling life and protect yourself from burnout or long-term emotional struggles. #WMHD24 #Veterans #HomelessVeterans #Homelessness #SupportingOurVeterans #MentalHealth #OpFortitude #Psychotherapy

Yesterday we held our staff meeting(3 members not present) which was a great opportunity for us to all get together and complete service review and cover Points that will help us to continue to improve Staff meetings are essential for fostering collaboration, bringing people together, and ensuring that everyone is aligned with the organization's goals. They provide a platform for open communication, where team members can share insights, raise concerns, and contribute ideas. By reviewing the service in detail, staff meetings enable the team to assess what is working well and identify areas for improvement. This collective reflection not only strengthens the quality of service but also empowers staff by giving them a voice in shaping the organisation’s direction. Ultimately, these meetings enhance team cohesion, boost morale, and ensure continuous progress in delivering effective services. Our staff are the backbone of our organisation, and their dedication and hard work are crucial to the success of our service. The importance of our team cannot be overstated — without their commitment, expertise, and daily efforts, we simply wouldn't be able to deliver the high-quality service that our clients rely on. Each staff member plays a vital role in ensuring that operations run smoothly, challenges are addressed, and client needs are met with care and professionalism. Their teamwork and perseverance are what drive our mission forward, making it clear that our service is only as strong as the people who bring it to life every day.

Corporate Social Responsibility & Sustainability Lead at The Mailing Room.

🌟 Inspiring Day with Adam Walmsley of Healthier Heroes CIC 🌟 As Part of The Mailing Room's commitment to Healthier Heroes CIC For the next three years, we have funded a community outreach worker who will provide a plethora of health and well-being support, welfare, benefits, housing, and more. I had the incredible opportunity of spending the day with Adam Walmsley, the driving force behind the Outreach work in Preston & West Lancs. Together, we explored the organizations that Adam has successfully linked up with in the Preston Area and made a positive impact with. We also spent some time at The Sandbag Café with VETERANS IN COMMUNITIES. Adam’s commitment to supporting veterans and their families is nothing short of inspiring. Through innovative programs and community engagement, Healthier Heroes has successfully addressed health disparities and fostered a sense of belonging for many. It was heartening to see firsthand how Adam and the team at Healthier Heroes CIC are not only providing vital services but also empowering individuals to take charge of their well-being. Their approach combines compassion, understanding, and practical solutions—setting a benchmark for community outreach. A big thank you to Adam for sharing your insights and dedication! 💪💚 #HealthierHeroes #CommunityOutreach #VeteranSupport #Inspiration #TheMailingRoom #Developingpeople #SupportingCommunities

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Thomas from The Mailing Room one of our key partners who help us to ensure we can contrite to deliver the impactful work we do. Thomas joined Adam, our Central and West Lancashire Outreach Worker, for a day to see and learn about the incredible work Adam carries out in our communities. Throughout the day, they attended several meetings, including a Veterans' breakfast, and visited various organisations and charities in Preston with whom we collaborate to support veterans and their families. Thomas also had the opportunity to hear firsthand from one of the veterans Adam has supported, whose difficult journey has led to a positive outcome, bringing him newfound hope and a much brighter future. Thomas commented by saying. I would like to thank you for allowing me to come and meet Adam today over in Preston. It is very clear to see that he is unbelievably passionate in the work that he does, and his empathy for those in need is absolutely amazing. It is very clear that the connections and outreach work that he has and continues to do is making a difference.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending West Lancashire Borough Council Armed forces Covenant meeting, which brought together several veteran groups, organizations, and key council members. It was great to hear about the ongoing initiatives in West Lancashire and engage in discussions on how we can further develop these efforts. We look forward to seeing these initiatives grow and supporting West Lancashire Council in the best way we can.
